Behold the power of two women who are friends armed with tequila-based beverages and a cordless glue gun.
June 1st has been looming large on the calendar and in the minds of many in these parts for months. While we were hanging out during Jazz Fest,
nolagrl came up with the fine idea to ring in the 2006 Hurricane Season with an Anti-Hurricane Party. Then
nolagrl was inspired by the ghosts of past shoe purchases and suggested that we make shoebox altars using storm debris, cherished items and New Orleans-oriented doodads (like Mardi Gras beads) as part of our festivities.
Our ingredients:
Creativity - It is the opposite of destruction.
Voodoo - It's New Orleans.
Margaritas - In the world of alcholic beverages, they are the anti-Hurricane. Hurricanes are red, sweet and rummy. Margaritas are green, tart and salty.
In the midst of our magic-making, I told
nolagrl that I felt like a kid in a candy store with all the arts and crafts supplies and Mardi Gras beads at our disposal. Below are a few pictures of our works in progress. We will continue adding little tokens throughout hurricane season to keep the magic going.
