Dim & Dimmer

Apr 18, 2006 20:13

A while back I posted this entry about the effect of airplane contrails on the future of astronomy.

Tonight, Juannie and I watch an episode of NOVA called Dimming The Sun.

Contrails and other polluting particles in the atmosphere may actually be counteracting the effects of global warming. During the three-day period after 09/11/01 when all air traffic was grounded, scientists here in the US were able to see very dramatic changes occur in that short period of time confirming the theory of "Global Dimming". Some climatologists are now concerned that the elimination of global dimming through the reduction of pollution may contribute to faster global warming.
