[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Ichimaru Gin
Age: Unknown - mid-twenties.
Gender: Male.
Fandom: Bleach - anime
Timeline: Chapter 182 - end of Soul Society arc
History: here

Character Personality:

"Emotions? Nope, I've got nothin' like that. I told you when we first met, didn't I? I'm a snake. With cold skin, no emotions, that slithers around searching for prey with its tongue, swallowing down whatever looks tasty."

Gin’s personality is a bit mysterious, and even after everything in his canon is flushed out, he is hard to understand. To most of the shinigami who know him, he comes across as a bit creepy. It could be the ever-present smile etched across his face, or maybe the way he speaks- usually morbid words spoken in a cheerful (almost joking) voice.

Gin is a very smart person, considered a prodigy. At a young age he murdered the former third seat (third in command) in his squad and took his position, a fact that the captain of the same squad covered up in order to keep Gin close the him. The captain of the squad found him fascinating , wanting to eventually have Gin’s help in overthrowing Soul Society, believing his strength and cunning nature would be of help to him.

Gin continued to move up in positions-- first becoming vice-captain of Aizen's squad, the 5th Division, and eventually becoming a captain in his own right. As the leader of the 3rd Squad, he wields control over multiple Shinigami. His manipulative side can be shown in his relationship with his own vice-captain, Kira. He allows Kira to grow increasingly attached to him, and later reveals that he did this so he could exert his control over him even when he is shown to be a traitor.

Traitor-- something Gin is called by Soul Society when it is revealed he has been working with Captain Aizen the whole time he was a Shinigami. But it is much later shown that Gin does not have enough loyalty to be considered a traitor, instead he is only on his own side. As much as he does not care for Soul Society, at the same time his main goal in life was to kill Aizen, and so he is equally a traitor to the Espada as well.

He could possibly be described as a sadist, as he seems to show great delight in bringing people up, only to later crush their spirits. An example of this is shown when Rukia is sentenced to death and Gin appears before her on the bride, telling her that she has a chance to escape. This tiny bit of hope appeals to Rukia until Gin, smiling even wider, tells her "Just kidding!" in his ever perky voice, and wonders off.

Gin takes very little effort in covering up his feelings towards others. His constant air of indifference and nonchalant manner makes it hard for others to tell when he is being serious and when he is simply making light of others, or a situation. This is how he often gets away with stating his opinions on most people.

Character Abilities:
In the world of Bleach Shinigami have many types of abilities, some more than others. Gin, being the captain of the third division, has many. Possessed with above average intelligence, his main weapon is his mind, and the power to retain mass amounts of information.
Captains in Soul Society usually have a very high Reiatsu, or spiritual pressure, which shows the strength of their abilities. The first time the main characters in the series come across Gin, he disarms them by releasing his Reiatsu without any effort.

Another common display of a shinigami’s power is displayed in their Zanpakto, or their swords. Each Zanpakto has it’s own special power, usually something concerning the nature of the Shinigami who wields it. Gin’s Zanpakto has the release “Shoot to kill” and when activated his shikai extends and can be used from a greater distance.

The upgrade of a shikai is known as a bankai, which is usually just a strengthened form of the same attack, still special to the one who wields it. Gin’s bankai is not much different from his regular release, it is the merely the ability for his sword to grow even larger and attack more enemies at the same time.

Kido is almost like magic, spells Shinigami can cast to gain, weaken or hide from
enemies. Not much is known about Gin’s kido, but it is implied that he is well versed in using it.

Character Weaknesses:

Gin’s weaknesses are hard to pinpoint. While some could argue that his lack of any kind of emotion could be a weakness, he is so guarded it is hard to see what he really is afraid of.

"I've decided. I'm going to become a Shinigami. Become a Shinigami and change things. So that they'll end...without Rangiku having to cry."

It would seem he doesn’t care for many people, but his relationship to Rangiku, an old friend of his, is one of the few shown in the series the he seems to carry any type of emotion for. When she asks him to stop fighting Ichigo, he -does- stop. Though at the same time, Gin has never lost a fight, and his desire to keep himself at arm’s length from other’s keeps even Rangiku from getting close to him. If someone could perhaps get close enough to be considered important, they could become a weakness for Gin.

Gin has severe trust issues. He often comes across as completely creepy, and he understands that it's not only due to his fox-like features and squinty, unreadable eyes. Gin knows that he will never compromise his long-term ambitions for his relationships with other people. This makes it nearly impossible for him to develop those relationships, because his goals are at odds with his relationships. So he holds back from other people and is purposefully unapproachable. In this sense, Gin knows that he actually is untrustworthy. He's unwilling to form any relationships because he thinks he will eventually betray a person. He also believes that any person he is close to will be used against him. So basically, Gin believes that if he forms any bonds, that person will either be used against him or be betrayed by him.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What are the abilities that your character will retain in Soul Campaign?
Obviously Gin’s most powerful moves will not carry over to Death City. His main Zanpakto moves will not be used at all, both shikai and bankai. If he does end up acquiring a sort-type weapon he will be an excellent wielder, and his one-on-one combat skills are still very high. It is mostly his intelligence he will survive on, but combined with a smart partner he could still retain slightly above average strength.

What are the weaknesses that your character will lose or gain in Soul Campaign?
Since the only person he seems to show some type of emotion to will not be in Death City, Gin will lose his main weakness. He will gain some, though, without the supernatural uses that come from wielding his sword. Shinigami also lose their powers once they are taken out of the ‘Spiritual World’ and put in ‘human bodies’-for instance their ability to use kido (magic) is severely limited, and Gin will completely lose that ability once he arrives in the city.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister:
Gin would be a better Meister than a weapon simply because he is used to giving orders, and wielding weapons. Given a sword-type weapon he could cause massive damage, while the same thing could not be said with him actually -being- a sword. The head of Aizen (main villain in the series) Arrancar army, he is used to giving commands.

Meister Ability:
Insane Soul - simply because Gin is insane. Although I have a hard time seeing the madness wavelength truly affecting him, I can see him feeding off of the madness affecting others.
Soul Talk - because Gin has the ability to deceive the people around him, or confuse them, with his words
Soul Apathy - this might work best because Gin has the attitude of being truly indifferent to others.
