No science homework because it is too hard? Really?

Yup. After talking to Lili's teacher this morning that does in fact seem to be the case. I fear for my daughters generation.

You can always aid her education yourself I guess.

Yup. There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth when I told her I didn't care if her teacher was assigning science homework or not because I was. :)

What? Really now?

Is this more evidence that the effects of standarized testing is a bad idea?

Yes, science is hard. I'm a friging scientist! I find science hard. If we knew what we were doing and it was easy, it would not be research would it?

See, this is what I am saying. It challenges the kids and makes them work and... this is a bad thing? WTF?

This is some lowest common denominator bullshit. I have no problem with it if they're, y'know, substituting lab work or something, but I somehow suspect that that's not what's going on here.

Lame. Just... lame.

Yes. Lame. And no. No extra lab work. They are getting extra social studies instead. Why? Because that is on the state CRCT (no child left behind bullshit) test at the end of the year.

HEY social studies is VERY important! However that should not mean that Science is eliminated. Is this still the private school or is she back in public school?

Our education system has turned in to a complete sad horrible joke. Sadly this is not the only school I have heard of doing this...
