Here's to my Mom.....she would be 97 years old on November 19th. I miss her. She died at 79 from lung cancer. She had great genes and probably could have lived into her nineties had she not been a smoker. She overcame so many
obstacles in her life. She was orphaned at 5 years old, lost her whole family to the Spanish flu epidemic. Mom was tossed around from aunt to aunt until she landed with her Aunt Bess who had come out West to seek her fortune as a milliner (hat maker). She married my Dad without ever finishing high school. She stayed married to him for over 30 years until his alcoholism drove her away. For the first time in her life she was totally on her own. Luckily my Dad had seen to it that she would get a portion of his state retirement after he died. She lived happily in an apartment complex full of widows and divorced women her age and just had a blast. She took annual trips to Hawaii, each time staying longer. She finally had a good, happy life. From where she started......she came a long way!
