re: pick a film?

It turns out you all have some interesting and awesome (and somewhat '80s skewed) tastes in films. And lots of you can't answer a question properly either *g*. Maybe I should've prefaced it with 'Someone's holding a gun to your/helpless puppy's/beloved stuffed animal's head'? Usually puts things in perspective. ;)

So naturally I'm left wondering why we pick what we do. For me, a/my perfect (subjectively speaking) film/book/tv show will make me laugh, make me cry, and make me gasp. LotR actually made me forget to breathe on a couple of occasions. I also have strong sentimental, non-Tolkien ties to these films, as they were released during my first few years at uni. A bunch of us went to see them several times over, so when I think of them, I think of my friends and one of the best periods of my life. For the same reason, I'm also rather fond of the Harry Potter flicks, despite enduring a nitpiky narration by slightly over-zealous fangirl friends ('OMG! Hermione's dress is wrong!' 'That didn't happen till chapter three!') ...

But damn. I do so love the cinema. Nothing quite compares.
