So, it's poetry month, and hils has just posted her response to the 'post some Shakespeare' meme, so I'm combining the two to make two memes in one.
A favourite sonnet:

29
When, in disgrace with Fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising,
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings,
That then I scorn to change my fate with kings.

* I enjoyed it! Good fun, plus I'm a sucker for Shakespeare and all ye olde historical eps.
* Nice nod to the fact that Martha wouldn't actually have been the only black woman around who wasn't a slave. (Also: From what little I've seen, I like her.)
* I counted at least three references/quotes to Macbeth, two to Hamlet, and the obligatory 'Once more into the breach...' from Henry V.
* 'And fifty-seven academics just punched the air...' Best. Line. Ever. : )
* Fourteen is also part of the date of my mother's birthday - she's evidently a witch.
* OK, the first Harry Potter reference was cute. But really - Expeliarmus, or however it's spelled? Blech. Stop shoving so much 'hip and trendy' pop culture into the show RTD and co. It dates it horribly.
* Doctor/Shakespeare/Martha OT3? Something tells me that this Will would also get along with Cpt. Jack quite nicely *g*. Also loved the fact that he was too smart for the psychic paper.
* Lovely scenery/backgrounds in this ep too. Some vague historical accuracy when Martha noticed Will's bad breath, and the bucket being emptied out into the streets. However, I reckon the smell would've got to Martha way before that. The middle of London + people who think bathing once a year is excessive? It would've ponged like Baldrick's underpants.
* Dad thought that Love's Labours Won was a made up plot device. I had to explain that it was quite the contrary.
* Next week looks interesting. Aren't we due some Daleks?
