+ Half-nekkid Jack! The perfect way to start any episode, methinks. Sadly, it seems to go downhill from there.
+ Jack sleeps! Well, it turns out that he was exaggerating with the whole 'I don't sleep' line. Good, because, as I've already said. People need sleep. Sleep is good.
+ Ianto! Looking... normal and not anguishy and pissed (overtly or otherwise) at Jack. The hell? I'm sorry, but has everyone has their memory erased after last week? Where's the fallout?! Jack's even patting his shoulder like noting happened. I mean, yay to to possible re-establishment of the relationship, but seriously, RTD, don't go all Star Trek on me and have the characters simultaneously experience group amnesia.
+ The same goes for Gwen and Owen. There was a kiss. And a hard-on last week. Not one scene even hinted at the repercussions of this. What about the boyfriend?
+ Jack also drinks alcohol. So much for so many a fan's carefully crafted theories of him not being able to imbibe such a drink.
+ And what exactly was going on with the 1909 flashback? Yes, this is possibly from when Jack was a Time Agent, because he sure as hell wasn't immortal before he met 9 and Rose in the 1940's. Did he just randomly pop in to join the army, then left? Bzuh?! Or, has he leapfrogged over himself through time as it were, and hung around Cardiff for decades?
+ For a writer that's supposed to be all about character development, I think RTD managed to sacrifice far too much character for plot. And not even a particularly well-crafted plot either, to my thinking.
+ Wow, I haven't been this critical for ages. And it's funny, because I'm really in a rather relaxed mood too.
+ Less jumbled thoughts later, perhaps.
ETA: I think I might've misread the credits, because looking at other reviews I think maybe Paul Cornell might've written this instead of Davies. Oops or no?
I think I need to re-watch this before I work out whether I really like it or not. I haven't even mentioned the relationship betwen Jack and the-lady-whose-name-I've-just-forgot, which I did think was lovely. Hm.
