So much news...

Not all good to share.
My grandfather drove himself to the hospital on April 1st. He died on the 19th.
Yeah, apparently he'd had kidney cancer for two years, but his other medical issues hid the symptoms - and the other medical issues meant he couldn't have been treated for the cancer even two years ago without actually shortening his life.
He didn't suffer for more than a day or two, though, and I'm grateful for that. I hope he rests in peace.

Now that the bad is out of the way...
Since my last mention of dental stuff-
My student graduates next year, and he is even more awesome than I thought. Back in January he explained that there are licensing exams that the grads do - they require live patients for two fillings, the work and x-rays are free, and the dental candidate often pays the patient for showing up when told to. He asked my permission to shop my file around and call me - I got no call. So I figured everybody had patients, right? Well, an appt or two later, a senior that is a friend of his comes over and says something about how he picked a patient out over six months ago, and the guy just had a heart attack and died not quite two weeks before the exam - can I do it?
Two fillings for that exam, plus a hotel stay in lexington, plus pay.
Next one was two fillings in town, plus pay.
Next one was one filling in NASHVILLE, plus a ride, plus pay.
My student really shopped my file around! He's actually eye balling two 'defects in enamel' that may just progress into cavities by the time his exams rolls around, I think partly because I've yet to cancel an appointment, or show up late.
Crown is done, got it last week (exams happened during the same weeks as scheduled appointments so I told them I couldn't do both or my boss would freak, so it delayed things). I need to get the crown adjusted, as it isn't quite the right shape.
That and the exams did a number on my jaw joint - and I apparently need a bite guard because I grind my teeth, which makes my TMJ worse.
Oh, and my student finally got a cavity and filling of his own. He went back home for a week for wedding in his family, and his father did his filling. The student said, I quote - 'I prefer being on this side of the chair.' That was when he was preparing to put the crown in my mouth, and saying he doesn't need to do anesthetic for this one said 'and who really wants to come in here and get numbed?' and made other such comments that make me think he really hates anesthetic.
Kinda interesting to know.
Well, all this typing after so long not hurts a bit, so it's time to go.

life - in general, teeth
