So of course I've read it! This is really surprising and interesting. I like your take on young John and Bobby. How candid John is, something he doesn't get to be on the show after Mary's death; and this meeker version of Bobby after an altogether different life. And then of course there's the plan: so what if John had applied his single-mindedness and dedication toward something totally unlike the Hunt, something positive? That would make for a very different John, a very different upbringing for Dean and a very different family business, I guess.
My only reservations would be about Ally's speech. I get that this is about demonstrating that achieving freedom takes more than a stack of signed papers and Bobby's reaction is a good instance of that but I doubt there ever was a slave who said "Us slaves have it good" and meant it, however good and fair their master. Maybe this is her being so very young?
Perhaps what I liked the most about this story is how enlightening, yet not spoilery, it is about where Dean comes from. And of course no matter the universe, John will be John in that he'll still be overprotective - leaning on overbearing - toward his son, even if it doesn't show here in the same way as in SPN. The way he casually plans ahead the next decades of his son's life had me grinning.

Thanks for all this, really. You did such a good work with my prompts. I'm glad you liked them and decided to create something out of them. It can be so frustrating to have story ideas and plot bunnies, for what they're worth, tormenting you when you're absolutely unable to write.
