PR: Memories

A tag/coda to "Shane's Karma". Just angsty playing with Shane. What can I say? Also, this is my -very- first fanfiction of absolutely any series. >^_^<
****************************************

Shane didn't mope by nature. It wasn't his nature, and it wasn't the nature of the element that he mastered. Air was constantly moving, uplifting, never-ending change. But on occasion, given a good reason, he could mope.

Only he wasn't moping. He was grieving. Skyla had touched a part of him, lit it up and set it on fire, to burn forever, then left him, with this constant ache and burning agony in him, with the knowledge that she'd never be back. From the first time he laid eyes on her, they had bonded, and he could never forget her.

Watching Vexicus hurt her enraged him to a level he had NEVER before reached. Everything around him faded until it was him, the bounty hunter, and an unending need to see him bashed into a greasy smear on the grass. How could she cause such reactions that were unlike him?

Watching her, feeling her disappear from his embrace just about killed him. As her spirit shifted into the phoenix, wings spread, the scream burning itself into his mind and memories, curling around his heart, he would swear that his heart was breaking apart. The one person he was so connected with, his unequivocal soulmate, had appeared, and spent mere hours together before being ripped apart.

And when the battalizer materialized around his morphed form, he would swear that Skyla was wrapping her arms around him, hugging him fiercely, whispering in his ear. She was so close, he could almost touch her, and it was a bittersweet experience. With his memories only, eventually they would fade, letting the throbbing agony fade into a tolerable ache, but with each donning of the armor, it ripped open the wound again.

The others would watch him, concerned, as he matured before them, reaching quiet adulthood years before his time. Before, he was carefree, exuberant, and loud. Now, with the phoenix touch lingering in his soul, there was no way that he could ever go back. Skyla had brought him to the next crossroads, and gave him the strength to chose his path.

If only she had given him more memories to keep with him on that path.
