Keeping track of things to burn down the kitchen with

Recently I've been on a crazy addiction for things. Things like shoes, knitting, sewing, and cooking. Although I'm too poor to buy shoes, only know how to knit and purl in a rectangular fashion, can't really draft anything, and might one day burn down the house. I've been in the mood to do the above.

In my quest to look for interesting things to make that's either out of the norm or not too sweet, I found lots of random things on food blogs through the help of Google. While I'd enjoy starting up my own blog, I don't want to manage too many things. So I thought I'd keep track of things here.

First up is a spice cake that I made from this recipe. It was well received by the white and white-washed population at casino training. Most of the Asians found it either too sweet or too weird, but according to the white folks, it 'tastes like Christmas', and is 'omg did you really make this?!' good. I replaced half the butter with original flavoured apple sauce because I only had half a cup of butter left at home, but it makes the cake denser. You could also use maple syrup in the stead of brown sugar.

Today I spent some time on the net looking for some matcha cake recipes and found some other stuff instead. They looked interesting and feasible for me so I'll post them here and make them when I get the chance.

This one is a Filipino Ensaimada. Whatever it is, it's a tasty looking bun/bread thing. The amount of butter and eggs looks terrifying but there's nothing that I love more than egg breads.

On the same blog was this Filipino style meatloaf (embutido). It's like a fruitcake but with meat and veggies with the possible additions of eggs and more meat. =D Looks REALLY interesting so check it out.

Because that Ensaimada was apparently a brioche, I looked it up and found this golden brioche recipe on Epicurious. Looks much more manageable but I don't have a standing mixer, much too expensive.

Getting back to the original purpose of my recipe hunt, I found this creamy thing. I think I've seen this before years ago when I was on my first matcha craze. It looks appetizing but there's way too much cream and I don't like altering recipes if I don't have to. Looking around again, I found this Japanese matcha roll cake recipe. It looks nice, I think I'll make it after I figure out how to convert the measurements.

That's it for today. Gotta eat lunch and figure out how to finish the stupid jsk.
