[Background]
Mary Weather grew up being moved around with her mom, Alegra, from job to job, reading fortunes on the side. Like her mother, she could read the fortunes of others, but never her own. Mary Weather’s mother was trying to keep them away from her husband, who was constantly trying to hunt them down.
While living as best they could, Mary Weather became close to Eric, a street boy. He helped her and her mother out when other people turned them away because they where called witches.
Mary Weather’s Mother finally found her fate though. Her husband, who was mad, found Alegra and tried to take her back. He didn’t know about Mary Weather at the time and she knew that his madness for her would lead him to hurt Mary so he could have her all to himself. So Alegra sacrificed herself to save Mary Weather from such a fait.
However, because Alegra did it by eating the poison in the bracelet, something that Mary Weather was told would save rather then kill, it looked like someone had killed her to Mary Weather. Since she believed that only herself and her mother know about the poison in the bracelet, she blamed someone in the Hargreaves family for her death since they should have known about it as well.
For a while Mary Weather lived by telling fortunes, Eric lifting a few pockets as well to help their income. Alegra’s husband, like Mary Weather, kept looking for someone to blame for Alerga death as well. Both of them found a target in Cain Hargreaves.
Cain stopped by Mary Weather’s table for a fortune telling and Mary told him his card was the hangman. Right after his fortune was read a man died trying to give Cain back his wallet. That disturbed Cain, so after telling the police, he went to confront Mary Weather again. After yelling at him and blaming Cain for the death of her mother, Mary had to run off, but she dropped her bracelet as she did. Mary had to go back to get it.
However, on her way home from talking to Cain She was attacked by a man. It was Alerga’s husband, who was now on the police force. He had figured out how they were connected and wanted Mary Weather killed. However he failed
Eric told the police that he was going to confront Cain about the matter since he believed that Cain was the one that attacked him. He used Mary’s name to lure Cain out as well. It was Burgess that met Eric in the street that night, but not to work as a police officer. He stabs Eric, but just before Eric dies Cain arrives and vows to protect Mary Weather for the rest of his life. Mary Weather isn’t even able to say goodbye to him, only crying on his lifeless body since she came to the area too late.
Cain thinks that is it the inspector that stabbed Eric, but as he is yelling at him Burgess come sin with Mary Weather at knifepoint. Burgess confesses that he saw Alegra kill herself rather then let him find out about Mary Weathers. He confesses to killing Eric as well. Cain is able to shoot Burgess and stop him from killing Mary. This is how Mary comes to understand that is isn’t Cain’s fault her mother died and goes to lives with him as his half sister.
Living with Cain isn’t what she expected it to be though. He keeps going off with out her and coming back with odd gifts, like a bird. Mary becomes very restless out in the countryside with nothing to do and is always asking what sort of adventures they can take. Finally Cain says they go to see a castle the villagers say is inhabited by vampires. Of course when they get there Cain goes to visit before her, but Mary Weather doesn’t stand for it long.
She becomes friends with Justine, the lady of the castle, and enjoys her company because Justine reminds Mary of her mother. They enjoy tea and cakes together. She asks if they can stay in the castle and Justine says that’s fine. However, that is when strange things start to happen for Mary.
Riff, Cain’s butler, starts to act oddly. Cain catches him trying to poison her tea, and then accuses him of burning her favorite hat. After they argue Riff says he is going to leave. This is very troubling to Mary Weather because she knows that Riff is very important to her brother and is always by Cain’s side. She tries to ask Riff to come back, but he refuses.
Left to have the rest of the visit in the castle, Mary Weather wakes up one night to some crashing. When she goes to investigate the noise, she finds Justine in the hallway. The crashing was the case to the key to the big tower of the castle. Mary Weather becomes excited and suggests that they go to see what’s there. After all, Mary Weather loves adventures.
What they find when they reach the top of the tower is horrible carnage. The top room is filled with body parts and blood, eyes and all sorts of ritualistic horrors. When Mary Weather tries to leave with Justine, it turns out that Justine was the vampire of the castle the entire time. She tries to bite Mary Weather, but Cain comes up into the tower just in time to save her. The tower is burnt down with Justine and her brother inside.
What confused and upset Mary Weather after her ordeal was that soon after, Riff returned. Apparently the entire thing was a setup to keep the doctor, whom Mary had paid little attention to, from doing whatever he had in mind. It really didn’t matter to Mary though since she was extremely upset at both Riff and Cain for not explaining to her from the start.
Mary Weather can’t stay mad at Cain for long though, especially when he tells her that he’s getting married. She didn’t even know he had a fiancée and that he was going to be married in six months. Of course Mary Weather insisted that she went along with Cain to meet the woman.
Cain’s Fiancée is Lady Emeline Lauderdale. Cain and Mary Weather meet her, along with Oscar Gabriel and Keith Sutton upon arriving at the house. However, Mary doesn’t care for Emeline at all and goes off to explore on her own since she is bored by everything else.
The adventure takes Mary Weather down into the basement, where she hears a noise. When she turns around, there is a Mr. Punch doll peeking out from under a door. The person controlling the doll says that he is being trapped, and that Mary Weather should help him escape. She decides to trust the boyish voice and unlocks the door. They play for a little while, but when the house becomes loud her new friend becomes frightened. Mary Weather goes out to the others and asks that they keep the noise down, but they just barge into the room they where playing in and start yelling to take Gilford back to his room. Mary Weather can do nothing to stop them.
The very next day Mary Weather does ask Cain if she can be Gilford’s friend. She believes that if she is his friend, he will be able to help the sickness that Gilford has. He acts like a 10-year-old child, even though he is Cain’s age. Mary Weather still wishes to be his friend and Gilford’s family agrees.
They have fun together while Cain goes to functions with his fiancée. However, Mary weather can’t stay playing with Gilford forever. He becomes upset when Mary Weather tells him they have to be going soon. He gives her a drawing of a man with a butterfly face and a knife. Under the drawing he had written in red ink “red ram” backwards. She didn’t understand it, but Mary Weather promised to cherish and keep it.
That night Mary Weather reveals to Cain that good seers can never be happy. That is because every time the reveal something about someone else, they are forced to carry that burden around with them. However, since Mary Weather has come to live with Cain, she had stopped being good at tarot cards. She is happy now, so her tarot card readings don’t work anymore.
When Mary Weather returns to see Gilford, he’s is scared and bruised all over. He clings to her and asked that she never grow up. It seems that many events have been happening at his house since Mary Weather left.
One afternoon Emeline bumps into Mary Weather and makes her drop the drawing that Gilford gave her. Emeline picks up the drawing, but Mary Weather snatches it back. Emeline can see that she really cares about her brother, but she doesn’t understand why. She tells Mary Weather about when they where younger and he used to be very cruel to her. Mary Weather can’t understand how she could be telling the truth though and Emeline gets away before she can ask anything else.
That was the last time that Mary Weather would see Emeline alive again. After a dark feeling, she ran to her cards and pulled them out, laying them on the table. When she turned them over she saw death, and was soon told after that Emeline had been killed
This didn’t stop Mary Weather from going out to see Gilford again. She enjoyed her times with him. Cain came to visit and gave Gilford back a Mr. Punch doll that he found on the flood with a needle in the doll, which had hurt Cain. Cain didn’t stay long, and as he left he saw the made that takes care of Gilford ripping up the drawing that was given to Mary Weather.
While Mary Weather is left with Gilford, she notices a change in him. They make a paper doll chain and start to color in the dolls as people they know. However Gilford draws dark things, such as drawing a red line on neck of the doll for Emeline and then snipping the head off. Mary Weather becomes frightened by his darkness and leaves.
The next few days, murders start happening which matched the cuts Gilford did on the dolls he and Mary had made, but Mary was unaware of that fact. Mary Weather becomes frightened after Gilford’s dad is killed and goes to see him. When she tried to tell Gilford how his father has been killed, he finishes her thoughts and shows her the doll of his father he had made. It was stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors. Gilford says that he was doing it so they could be together. That now the only person in their way was Cain. Gilford tries to kiss her, but Mary Weather scratches his cheek to get away. He wasn’t the Gilford that she liked anymore, so she ran out of the room.
Gilford is soon out of his fog, and blames all of the murders on Lisa, the maid that took care of him. He seems to be normal, but he is very arrogant. Gilford says that both Lisa and Emeline were his tools and that he would have used her as a tool as well. The only problem was Mary Weather’s smarts. After almost yelling at Gilford, Cain slapping Gilford stuns her, and she runs away in shame.
In the woods Mary Weather sprained her ankle. All she wanted to do was cry at her humiliation, but Oscar found and picked her up. She protested, but then he suddenly yelled at her that he should allow men to take care of her. She is stunned into silence at this and allows him to carry her back. Always one to ask questions, Mary Weather asks if Oscar had a woman in his life. He answered that he did and that she is always in his watch. Mary noticed that he is talking about her in the past tense and asked about it. Oscar said it is because she died long ago.
Confused she inquires about how she died, though Oscar seems to skip around answering it directly. It seems that he wants to go see her and offers to take Mary Weather along with him. He notes that she looks like she doesn’t want to be alone, but then turns in ask adds or maybe its that she doesn’t want to be with a murderer. Mary completely denies that he could have killed and agrees to go with him.
Oscar returned Mary safely back to the house, only to be interrogated by Cain. Since so much has been happening at the house, Cain decided to take Mary into town. It’s there that Mary Weather hears something going on and goes to see. She finds Gilford stabbed and dying. He calls out to her. He was saying that hewouldn’t let him see her, that he was holding him back. Mary understood that the boy that she first started to play with was back. It was too late, and Gilford dies in the street.
Time passed and Mary Weather became more and more confined by her brother. Each time that he goes away for a long period of time, he brings her back a new doll of stuffed bear. Mary says that she has the same number of toys as the number of times that Cain has upset her.
Mary however excelled at her studies. She excelled in linguistics, manners and the piano. One of her teachers was called Madame Flemming, but Mary Weather didn’t care much for her. Madame Flemming had an annoying habit of always talking to Mary Weather about her own daughter. Constantly talking about how they are the same age, and how much Mary Weather reminded her of her own daughter. Mary often used her wit to upset Madame Flemming when she over steeped her bounds.
One day, Cain came home with his usual present. Cain brought home with him Oscar, who as usual kept speaking of marrying her. That wasn’t what upset her the most however. Oscar, in his stupidity, confirmed that Cain had been going out playing with woman. Of curse this only upset Mart Weather more.
After resting for a while, Riff came to cheek on Mary Weather. It was then that she found out that Madame Flemming’s daughter had recently been killed when she asked about a photo that Madame Flemming had left behind. Mary Weather felt ashamed that she had been so cruel to her. It also reminded her about how cross she had been with Cain, and she decided to go say she was sorry to him.
When she went to find him, however, Cain was at the door talking to a police office. Apparently Madame Flemming had been missing since she left Cain’s house. Mary Weather remembered what Madame Flemming had left behind a note along with the picture of her daughter that had an address written on it. Thinking that she was the next place that she was going to go to, Mary decided to go to the address and see if she had been there, regardless of what Cain might think.
When Mary Weather reached the address, she found a crocked house. The lady of the house was Rebecca Mary Crouge, who was only a little older then Mary. She had a crooked leg. Apparently she had been living with the maid alone ever since her parents had been killed. Mary Weather confessed that she didn’t have any parents either, and that often it felt that her brother was only locking her away like a doll.
Rebecca came the conclusion that Mary Weather was running away from her brother and decided that that should be friends. She even decided that they should go and see Rebecca’s secret room, despite the protest of her maid. Rebecca had a room filled with life-sized dolls.
It is at this time that Cain arrives at Rebecca’s house seeking Mary. The maid denies that Mary Weather is within the house, but Cain shoves his way further into the house regardless. Once inside the house he found the bell that was on the bear he had bought for Mary Weather. However, Rebecca snatched the bell away from him and insisted that he leave right away.
While Rebecca was talking to Cain, Mary was looking over the dolls. They are so realistic that they look alive. There was even a doll that looked like Madame Flemming. Mary Weather’s looking around didn’t last long though. After talking to Cain, Rebecca came storming into the room. She accused Mary of having someone that loves her. That Mary wasn’t going to stay with Rebecca, so she bashed Mary’s head in so she would stay. The maid stopped her from hurting Mary further. The maid stopped Rebecca because it was important that Mary be perfect like a doll in order for the ritual to work.
Cain used smoke to sneak into the house at night. He covered his mouth so that the fumes wouldn’t affect him. While looking around the house, the felt a presence coming from one of the rooms and went in. When he did he saw all of the dolls and decided to look closer. As Cain looked around he found the bell that was on the bear he had given Mary Weather, and the doll holding it looked just like Mary Weather.
It was then that one of the dolls moved on its own, almost cutting Cain in half, but Cain was able to dodge it. Cain turned and saw a life-sized doll dressed in funeral clothing. When he looked close, he noticed that the doll was making a sound. When he touched the dolls face, the mask fell off, revealing Madame Flemming. Cain’s mouth was covered to force him to breath in fumes and he passed out.
Mary Weather was the first to wake up. She saw Cain tied up across the room. Rebecca told why she chose Madame Flemming as she was getting things ready for Mary Weather. Madame Flemming always spoke of Mary Weather, but she was nice to Rebecca as well. One day Madame Flemming came into her special room and found Rebecca’s dead mother. Madame Flemming was supposed to be turned into a doll, but then Rebecca decided to make Madame Flemming her new mother.
Rebecca told why her mother was rotting in the doll room as well. After Rebecca’s father ran away with another woman, Rebecca’s mother locked her away from the rest of the world. She didn’t want her little girl to leave her like her husband had. However, Rebecca wished to be free, and tried to sneak away.
When Rebecca was found, her mother had the maid strap her down to the bed. Rebecca’s mother thought that if she broke Rebecca’s leg, then she could never leave her. However, right before the maid smashed down the hammer on Rebecca’s leg, Rebecca threw a lamp at her mother and killed her instantly. Unfortunately the maid did her job as she was told and Rebecca’s leg was broken.
Rebecca said that she now understood why her mother did what she did. That is why she now turns all of the people that are important to her into dolls with the help of the maid that crushed her leg, so they can’t leave her. Mary Weather was to be her next doll.
When the maid was about to start the process, Cain stopped the maid. He revealed that she had been a nurse before becoming a maid. The reason that she played along with Rebecca’s plans was because she loved to poison others. She then started a fire in her madness. Rebecca tried to hold Mary Weather back to die with her, but then Madame Flemming held Rebecca back by her crutches, allowing Mary to get away.
Mary Weather was then able to escape and jump into Cain’s arm to escape the fire. Cain confessed that he wanted to save her from the Hargreaves curse, to protect her from the outside world. He also admitted that he wanted to keep her from the men that will want her when she is older. That his love may end up being something dangerous that could engulf her in flames.
When Mary Weather heard this, she ran into his arms and declared that she wanted to be engulfed in his love. That she didn’t mind being trapped in a cage.
After having that ordeal, Mary started to stay near society more. She started to go to parties with many of the other ladies of London. However, the calm wasn’t going to last. Apparently murdered started to happen where girls had their eyes ripped out. It became the talk of the day since a woman’s looks are her life. Cain didn’t see why women do such things, but Mary Weather could.
Lady Drew Benjamin was from a noble family and should have been just as popular as Mary was, but because of her homely looks, she wasn’t. Mary tried to help her friend out by having her talk to Cain, which was an invitation that many girls would have loved. However, Drew was so flustered by the meeting and the fact that he was paying her attention that she freaked out and ran away.
Mary Weather followed her, yelling back at Cain that she would meet him back at the house. She tried to calm Drew down, but she just kept going on about how wonderful Cain was and how homely she was. It was then that they over heard a group of girls talking about a beauty medicine. The girl’s hair was glossy, her eyes where shinny and her skin became almost translucent. Karen, the girl who had used the medicine wouldn’t tell the others girls where she got it because you needed a membership card to get in.
As the girls left, Karen dropped the card and Mary picked it up. Mary tired to give it back to Karen, but Drew stopped her, begging that Mary Weather give her that card. Mary agreed and went into town with her to see the doctor. Mary thought that it sounded very phony, so she wanted to see what the medicine was like.
When they arrived they sat on a bench until Drew was called back. Drew asked that Mary wait for her, and Mary agreed to say for her friend. After Drew received the medicine, they started off. As they where going, Mary was able to see the doctor, but only a small look before the door was slammed shut.
Things seemed to be going well, and a little later Drew’s family threw another party. All the girls gathered around Cain, but then Drew called them all cats in heat. When they turned around to yell at her for being rude, they where surprised by her new looks. She had lost weight, her freckles where gone and her hair had become lighter as well. It was almost a sickly looking beauty though.
That night Mary Weather stayed with Drew. As they were preparing for bed Mary told Drew that she should quite taking the meds. Mary thought the changes had come on too suddenly and it seemed dangerous. Drew said she was being silly, but before she could say more, her face started to redden and she screamed out in pain.
It was then that she withered in pain and smashed her head into the mirror to make the pain stop, killing herself. Moments later the doctor that gave Drew the medicine came into the room and took out Drew eyes. Mary watched the entire thing before Cain burst into the room and she told him the entire story. This upset the doctor and he used a cloth to make Mary Weather pass out, carrying her away.
When Mary Weather woke up she was lying in a cage, the doctor and a woman in a full mask talking bellow her. The woman in the mask was talking about how they had killed the girls for their eyeballs, and how they would be used in a beatification ritual on the next full moon. The doctor said they would have the fifth set of eyes soon from Karen. Mary weather was had been pretending to be asleep, but the doctor called her out and said that her eyes would be the sixth pair.
[Personality]
Mary Weather is blunt. But she doesn’t say things to hurt others. She wasn’t raised to be a lady and it tends to show at times. She likes new adventures and seeing new places. Being made to stay anywhere for a long period of time is upsetting to her. She likes to explore, even when then might mean trouble or danger. She doesn’t think about the dangerous parts of her adventures though.
Mary is a contrary girl, saying she wants something one moment, and then changing her mind the next. All of her actions are done with a lack of experience to them, though she doesn’t believe that she lacks any. She makes up her mind quickly as well, which can work to her disadvantage.
Mary Weather tends to see the good in others, and tries to do good things. She likes calm people who remind her of better times. She herself likes to wear calm and soft clothing and tries to act more lady-like so as not to worry her brother too much. She is contrary though, and isn’t afraid to tell anyone what is on her mind, even if that might mean trouble.
[Abilities]
Mary Weather is a gifted seer. She can see people’s fortunes through hers cards. She used to make a living off of it when her mother died. However, when she is happy, her powers don’t work anymore.
[Other important stuff] Mary’s power’s are most likely not going to work since the only time they do when she lives with Cain is when he’s in A LOT of danger.
[Sample post]
[First Person]
1 What do you think of your home world? Home world? Do you mean England? That’s the only part of the world that I’ve seen, so you must mean that. I like the countryside best. Brother doesn’t like me to wonder too far though, which takes some of the fun out of it.
2 What were you doing before now? Well, right before I came here I was trying to escape a cage, but in general I was concentrating on my studies.
3 If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do? Why would someone be attacking me in the first place? That’s a silly question. Even so, I would try to run, and if that didn’t work I would kick, scream and bite.
4 Would you consider yourself a power hungry individual? You ask stupid questions.
5 Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond? I don’t carry a watch, so I would point them to someone who did.
6 Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do? Kick them! Kick them really hard!
7 If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why? I would say you’re off your rocker and find someone to take you away, since you clearly need to be locked up.
8 If you could have any super ability, what would it be and why? I wouldn’t, they are too much of a burden.
9 You're asked to take someone out for a date. Do you agree? If so, describe what you would do. If not, tell why. No, I’m 10! Boys are gross and annoying. Well, not brother. But I’m not going on a date with my brother! Ew!
10 You discover someone stalking you. Do you call the police or deal with it yourself? I would stalk them back and see what they were up to, then tell brother about what I found.
11 There is a cake in the rain. What do you do? Is it in a box in the rain? I’d go fetch it then! There isn’t any reason to get a wet cake though. Riff makes wonderful sweets. In fact, was it one of Riff’s cakes? That would be silly of him to leave cake out in the rain.
12 Do you prefer adventure or the peaceful life? Adventure! As much adventure as I can get away with at lest.
13 Do you prefer the city or living out in the country? Why? The countryside is much better. The sun is nice and I can run around all I like without having to be proper.
[Third Person]
Mary was finally able to talk Cain into letting her walk outside by herself. He had taken all of her charm and skills, but it had finally paid off. After all, it’s not like she was going into the real city. At lest, that’s what she told him.
It was when she reached the edge of the shopping district that Mary became really happy. She looked around though, just to make sure that Cain hadn’t had her followed. Cain was a good brother, but she still wasn’t used to being copped up. Besides, this place was just too fun to not explore on your own! She started into the shopping district then with a skip in her steep.
Everywhere Mary looked was new and exciting! Sure, she had been able to see these places with Cain and Riff, but it just wasn’t the same. By herself, Mary lingered at the dress shop. She even tried on a few more modern dresses that Brother would never let her have. She felt so scandalous.
By the time Mary had come to the candy store, her tummy was rumbling. She looked to one of the clocks in the candy store just to make sure she wasn’t late for tea. She was! She had missed tea entirely! Brother would be so upset! Mary darted out of the store and ran right home. Brother was sure to have a lecture for her!
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I enjoy her personality and I’d like to play with the Riff and Cain.
