... can I just mention how very bitter it makes me that FOX has decided to cancel Firefly? Sad, truly sad.
All's not yet lost, however. Watch the new episode tonight at 8 to see what it's all about if you don't know already, then check out
Firefly: Immediate Assistance for ways to help if you think this original concept is worth saving. It's certainly worth more of a chance than it had to begin with, anyway, I think.
Apparently FOX decided to replace Firefly with "Joe Millionaire." The hell? What a disappointment -- let's sabotage a new, original show (and a form of sabotage it certainly appeared to be, what with the odd scheduling choices for airing new episodes, etc.), and then cancel it in favor of THAT? I guess I should just be pleased it wasn't replaced by "When Animals Attack: The SERIES!"
I'm not a particular fan of reality TV anyway, although I do recognize that there's quite a trend. Ok, fine. However, shows along this apparent line -- and I include "The Bachelor" and "Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire" and other dreck of that sort in this list -- quite simply make me ill. The wholesaling of personal relationships, particularly marriage, for money in public pretty much gives new meaning to the word degrading, as far as I'm concerned.
Bravo, FOX. That's the way to show your originality and cutting-edge thinking. By the way, do you happen to remember how well a little show called The X-Files worked out for you? Not to mention how much leeway you gave the creator of that show over the long term? Perhaps you should take another look at that piece of history before you race to discard anything new, hmm?
Sigh. OK, I guess I'm done for now.
