There are a few people reading along who may remember the source of both the subject line and icon used for this post. It came from one of a series of jumprope rhymes created Dark Tower-style in Milliways, many years ago; I believe both this rhyme and the icon were created by
genarti.
I use it for my travel icon, because it sums up very well my attitude toward what travel should be: far-reaching, with friends when possible, and (hopefully) fun. It came to mind today for a few reasons. For one, I was looking at various travel programs and airfares and accounts, idly planning out potential trips for the next few months. For another, I'm still in Tennessee and will be through Sunday.
It's not been the best trip, but it's not been the worst either. I am holding to that, and holding as well to the fact that sometimes, you just have to find joy in the moment where you can in an imperfect world.
Anyway, back to travel plans. I'm sorting through the realistic (already planned and budgeted for, both time and money-wise), the reasonable (not planned yet but not too expensive in terms of either time or money), and the wish list. For this year, I'm looking at a couple-three long weekend trips, perhaps a couple of conference trips, potentially a summer trip to Tahoe, the usual DragonCon trip, and beyond that, probably not too much.
For next year, I want to visit Scotland, because I haven't yet, and it's been on my list for a while. There are a few friends who are talking about a trip to Spain, too, so maybe I can figure out a way to work the timing.
The year after that, I am thinking seriously about celebrating my birthday in Florida at Disneyworld. I keep reading about how much fun an adult trip to Disney can be if done right, and there's something about the idea of doing a birthday trip to the "happiest place on earth" that sounds like it would be amazing. I'd meant to do something big for my last anniversary birthday, but somehow those plans just slipped away. This time, two years out, it seems like that could be enough time to make it happen. And the more the merrier, so if this sounds like fun to you too, sing out. :)
Other places I want to go in the reasonable future: Australia (many places there), Alaska, Vancouver and the surrounding area, and ... I'm not sure where else at this particular second.
Any suggestions?
