It's just late enough that it'll soon be getting early, but since I'm not sleepy quite yet I thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity to take care of a couple of post-related things that have been on my to-do list.
For one, I had a fabulous time last weekend.
phoenixchilde came out for a visit, and she and I and
agonistes and sometimes
vivien529 hit up the biscuit place and the Tattered Cover and closed down City O'City (yes, again) while waiting for the Rapture-that-Wasn't (among other things) and watched a lot of fannish canon things, including Justified and Fringe and The Golden Girls and Doctor Who and oh, yes, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
In theory I am planning to write up an actual review of the film, so I'll save most of my comments for that should I ever get around to it. The short version is that I enjoyed it, largely for character-specific reasons and details rather than anything related to history (or lack thereof) or Actual Plot, especially as it had either too much plot or too little plot or both at once as far as that sort of thing was concerned. (I think it's both, actually. Which I promise does make sense.) Anyway, it was much better than I feared, and I had fun, and I'm more than content with that.
The final thing I've got on my list for this post is the latest question meme that's been going around, thanks to
mercuriazs having tagged me for it!
The Rules:
1. People who have been tagged must write the answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new, original question. Er, okay. Have at?
2. Tag six people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you. You know, I spend just enough time in my days trying to draft the right language for surveys and other project-related things that the perceived tone of this question caused me to narrow my eyes at it. Therefore, per Rule 1, I'm revising it to the below:
2., updated. If you would like to help keep the meme going, please tag up to six people, not including the person who tagged you. If not, that's okay too! Oh, let's see here--
varadia,
misslucyjane,
phoenixchilde,
batyatoon,
in_the_blue, and
lanning, if you haven't already been tagged and would like to be, consider it done.
01. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up.
A series of vids playing on Logos-the-iPad. It's like my own personal vidshow.
My cat, Talia, who is asleep in my lap with her head on my left wrist, again.
A blue-enamel water bottle.
A copper kettle. (Two of them, actually, but I'll only count them once.)
Quite a few books. Who's surprised?
02. How do you style your hair?
It depends on the occasion and how much time I'm willing to put into it. Standard practice is to wash (and 50% of the time condition) it in the shower of a morning, comb through, add some sort of smoothing serum if I remember, and blow it dry.
03. What are you wearing now?
An orange t-shirt with a black raven on it, gray workout pants, and gray cloth pseudo-tennis shoes. Oh, and the appropriate and absolutely essential support garments for running when you're built like I am.
04. What's your occupation?
Health care research.
05. What are you hearing right now?
Right now, as I'm typing this, it's ... wow. Okay then. It's "Alone," by Heart, which is playing as the musical setting for a Merlin vid by
sisabet that has just popped up on the playlist and which never fails to make me smile.
06. What's your favorite guilty pleasure treat?
Ice cream.
07. Are you hungry?
Not at the moment.
08. What's the most memorable thing someone's said to you this week?
"Why do seven of them correspond to this situation?" So far, anyway - it's still early in the week.
09. Dog person or cat person?
I'm more of a cat person, although I do like dogs. Unfortunately I have neither time nor space to properly provide for the kinds of dogs I would prefer. Also, Talia would never forgive me.
10. What song is currently stuck in your head?
Nothing yet, but I'll be surprised if I come out of the vid playlist without something sticking with me. Based on what's coming up in queue, odds are it'll be something by the Flobots.
11. What was the last thing you bought?
Lunch? Unless you count the monthly bill-paying spree. If you don't want to count either standard meals or bills, then the last thing before that was tea.
12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Everywhere. All the countries I haven't visited yet, all the US states I haven't visited yet, and then if I could, I'd round out the experience as a space tourist. (That counts as "in the world," right? It starts there, anyway!)
13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
The most likely places are Denver and Washington DC.
14. Last book you read?
Feed, by Mira Grant (which is a pen name of Seanan McGuire). I am counting down the days until the next one in the series.
15. What are you doing this weekend?
misslucyjane is coming to town! I expect we will have adventures accordingly.
16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
I do play musical instruments, as it happens: piano, flute, and voice. The next one I'd add would be guitar, followed by harp, followed by trumpet.
17. How are you?
I'm okay. I'm also finally approaching tired enough to sleep, as well, so that's good.
18. What are you doing tomorrow?
Running through the latest round of projects both work-related and academic, I expect.
19. What are you looking forward to the most?
Near term or long term? Okay, okay, I know... let's say in the very near term, probably sleep (hopefully without last night's nightmares). In the middle-ish term, I'm really looking forward to my upcoming trip to Seattle. In the longer-but-hopefully-not-too-long term, finishing my degree.
And that's a wrap! Good night, everyone.
