reverence, and worship, and glory, and the upward glance

Today's subject line is from The Fountainhead, by Ayn Rand. Here's the thing: I've never actually read this book, or any of Rand's works, only the occasional synopsis of its plot, which usually leads into discussion and critique of objectivism, which is where I get distracted and wander off among the words and works of various philosophers. But as I understand it, the quote is attributed to a character who doesn't compromise his values to bend to society's general preferences, which makes it absolutely perfect for Luna Lovegood. So -- GIP. Yes.

It's the start of a new week, and the start of a new semester, which brings a sort of closure to the last month as my schedule perforce changes once again. As far as I'm concerned, it could not have come too soon. These last thirty days or so have been ... let's just call them 'long' and leave it at that. But onward and upward, and I anticipate many good things in the next little while!

(An aside to Milliways PotC-types: concomitant with this change, I should finally have more time in the next fourteen days than I've had in the last month and more combined. Look for me to get with the program in a real and drastic way in the next 36 hours, as a result.)

In terms of course load, this semester is the lightest one I've taken in the last two years. Of course, since it also happens to be the first semester of my master's thesis (I anticipate defending in the spring), my definition of "light" may require some reworking. Anyway, it's the thesis, an independent-study epidemiology project (specific topic as yet to be determined, although I'm starting to put together a few ideas), and a qualitative methods course. That's more than enough, especially as I'm now working during the academic year again. Just over half-time, though, which is more than doable.

There are several memes making the rounds, as per usual, and a number of them look interesting, but because I haven't done anything like this in a while, I'll offer this one.

Ficlet, Icon, Question, or Song! Name a fic prompt, request an icon, ask me a question, or request a song, and I'll do my best to oblige you.

Fair warning, it may take me a little while, but I will get back to you. :) And on that note, I'm off to work. Have a good day, everyone.

work, memetics, a day in the life, school
