There's been a lot going on around this little corner of the Internet that I plan to address, both events on LJ and off, but I'm starting with what I consider to be an extremely important announcement.
Today is the second day of
International Blog Against Racism Week.
Talking about racism is difficult. It's uncomfortable. It reminds people, both the writer and the reader, of events and issues that carry a great weight of anger and shame. It's an emotional topic, an incisive topic, very often a divisive topic.
And it's an important topic.
Not talking about racism doesn't make it go away. It doesn't make it not exist. And it doesn't do a thing to help combat it, which is something that badly needs to be done.
So this week -- and potentially every week, of course, but this week in particular -- I'm going to be writing about racism, and I strongly encourage everyone to do the same. Even if you don't know what to say, or just can't find the words, I encourage you to follow the link above and do some reading.
There's a lot to think about, and a lot to discuss.
