I now know without any doubt what "sickly sweet" means. It burns! Make it stop! Please, make it stop! Thankfully, it didn't encompass the entire episode.
Apparently a perfect world is going to be boring. Who knew? Does that make me evil? Nah; from chaos, life; perfection equals stagnation and decay. I'll probably develop exposition and theory along these lines later.
Blood carries magic. We saw it over on Buffy where Dawn's blood/Buffy's blood saved the world in "The Gift," we know it from the fact that Slayer power is apparently passed through blood lineage back to the First Slayer, and vampirism, which in some ways is a magical disease/infection, is transmitted through the blood. In this case, Jasmine's blood breaks her (its?) illusion-- first allowing John S. to see it, since he was scratched by the vampire that wounded Jasmine, contaminating him with her blood, and second when Fred stayed in contact with it while scrubbing her fingers to the bone cleaning the shirt. I do hope Fred kept that shirt, because at the moment I sure don't see any way that she's going to open anyone else's eyes -- it's unlikely that she'll get close enough to wound Jasmine again anytime soon.
I very much liked Jasmine's self-reference as a Power. That quite nicely touches on addressing a question that's been arising in fandom, now doesn't it?
For the first time, I was glad Lilah was dead. If I'd had to see her pandering to Jasmine's power, I think I might have broken, and not in a good way. I still miss her, though.
Jasmine to Wes and Gunn: "You both have the same love! It should bring you closer together, not drive you apart." Wait, is that the sound of Wes/Gunn slashers firing up their computers to write a flurry of fic? Yep, I thought so. :)
Nice touch by Angel on recognizing and acknowledging that happiness was a dangerous thing for him!
All in all, some plot advancement, but mostly it felt like setup for the future. Still, I am certainly not dissatisfied, and am looking forward to next week's developments.
