I pre-ordered Underneath as soon as I saw it on Amazon UK, and the dispatch date was estimated at Apr 23, so I’ve been waiting for my CD for the last couple of weeks now. Anyway, due to reasons I don’t quite know, on Apr 26 I still hadn’t received it, so I cancelled my order with Amazon and ordered it through Amazon Marketplace from a company called Caiman USA. I’ve bought CDs from them before; I got the G3 Live in Concert CD from them a couple of weeks ago, as well as my Eric Johnson ‘Venus Isle’ CD. But anyway, even with shipping, their asking price was five quid cheaper than Amazon, and they dispatched the next day. I received it today, and the first thing I did was watch the DVD that comes with it - which I think is really awesome, although I admit I’m not too hot on the live tracks on there. I’m the kind of Hanson fan who enjoys the behind-the-scenes, get-down-and-dirty with the band kind of documentaries. Their harmonies are as fantastic as ever though and it’s great seeing them perform acoustic stuff live. And then, while I was working on my fiction portfolio, I gave the CD its debut spin - and I love it! It’s fantastic. Definitely worth the four year wait!
I’m dead impressed with the final version of Strong Enough To Break. It came out really well! I loved the version of that song that they did on the Mark and Brian show, but the studio version rocks. So does Misery, and Deeper, and Get Up and Go…the biggest surprise of the whole CD for me though was Lost Without Each Other. I admit, I wasn't expecting much from that song because I’m not the biggest fan of Gregg Alexander’s songwriting style, but of course it’s a Hansonised collaboration and much better than I expected. Believe and Broken Angel are beautiful as well, as well as the bonus track, Lulla Belle, which I’ve been just aching to hear since I heard about it. It’s a gorgeous song.
Ooh I’m so excited! I haven’t felt this excited for a long time - Hanson bring that out in me! I was boring Matt to tears earlier - we were sat in the car and I was just banging on about how I couldn’t wait to hear the album and how it’d been four years in the making, and all that stuff. Fair play for him, he sat there and listened. He must be perfect for me if he’ll listen to all that! And not only that, but he said that if Hanson tour the UK next year he’ll come with me to see them, even though he’s not that much of a fan he’s prepared to give them a chance! He does respect them for writing their own music and producing their own albums though.
“Don’t go, don’t go telling me you’re alright
There’s no room for getting uptight
Don’t go saying that you’re OK
When you’re lonely
Baby, don’t go telling me we’re over
When you know you’re my one and only lover
And I won’t go saying that we’re OK
When we’re lost without each other
‘Cause we’re lost without each other…”
That song has to be one of their best, I think. It’s so damn catchy. And if you’re reading this and you don’t have it, what on earth are you waiting for? Go and buy it. Right now.
