At the end of the day, game companies are getting like movie...people: 'Hey let's make sequels and/or updated versions of old games. Yes, oh oh oh oh! And prequels, don't forget those. Gotta have the prequels. If people have bought it before, they will buy it again

It's a loss of creativity and being driven by profit margins.
Casual gaming isn't a threat to any other part of gaming. It's good for the industry, pulls in a lot of money, and is good for people who do enjoy gaming but they aren't as hardcore as basement dwelling nerds such as myself.
It's a creative slump that's been evident in video games and movies for as long as I've been alive. It goes up and down, and there isn't really anything anyone can do to breathe life into it.
Also, there are always going to be mountains of crap to sift through for gems. It IS entertainment, after all. There will always be those wonderful gems to find, and it makes the search all the more interesting.
Also, with so many different opinions and tastes out there, you can't please everyone all the time. However, due to the sheer numbers of games that are cranked out each year...there's always likely to be something you find wonderful at some point. A lot of developers (especially the really savvy and good ones) do try their best to find things that will interest and please as many people as possible, but that's always hard to do in just one game.
As for indie gaming always being good and innovative...I honestly doubt every single indie game ever is a masterpiece. And as for casual gaming being for people with no brain? ...that's kinda harsh, don't you think?
