CHANGELOG
10.11.16: I DID NOT REALIZE YULETIDE ASSIGNMENTS WOULD GO OUT SO QUICKLY; LETTER WILL GO UP TODAY, I PROMISE!!!!
10.12.16: I'm a huge butt and didn't have time to write my letter yesterday. :( I will edit this post throughout the day today to add more details.
10.13.16 @ 8:17AM: Started working on fandom-specific details, but forgot to post it. Oops.
10.16.16 @ 9:52PM: I'm so sorry, I'm at a wedding this weekend; will work on the rest of the fandoms tomorrow. I'M THE WORSE RECIPIENT.
10.17.16 @ 10:57PM: Rest of the fandoms are up. Will add more details/edit as I have time.
YOU ARE WRITING ME A STORY, WHICH ALREADY MAKES YOU ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE FOREVER. Thank you!!!!!!
General details: most of this is c&ped from last year's letter as most of my tastes are the same. I am not super picky: I will be happy with all ratings and pairings or lack thereof (gen, het, slash, femslash: take your pick).
For the particular fandoms that I've requested, I would prefer no rape/non-con, no hardcore BDSM, no OOC angst/melodrama, no incest. I have a huge embarrassment squick and get terrible second-hand embarrassment. I'm not usually into threesomes or poly-relationships, but I have on occasion been convinced. I don't like huge displays of romance -- stereotypical grand gestures, public proposals, things like that. I don't like bashing of female characters in particular or any characters in general; I'm much more interested in the motivations and/or complexity of characters, even ones we don't like. (Unless they're unrepentantly racist/sexist/homophobic, etc.)
Things I like in general: futurefic, most tropes/cliches (not a huge fan of de-aging, high school AUs, kidfic (unless the kid(s) are in their teens), or accidental baby acquisition), crossovers/fusions (especially His Dark Materials or Harry Potter fusions), post-apocalyptic fic, AUs of all kinds. I have a huge competence kink. I like my stories more relationship-driven than plot-driven -- not to say that I don't love a great plotty story, but I get way more invested if you show me how it affects the characters and/or their relationships. Even though I love tropes/cliches, I also love fics with non-traditional storytelling, or are meta/self-aware, or play with the elements of the genres they belong to. I love it when cis!dudes are written as cis!ladies or trans. I love racebending white characters as well. (More ladies and characters of color are a plus.)
If you do write romance, I am a diehard romantic. I don't like infidelity. I am all about OTPs. I like snark, and sarcasm, and a sprinkling of emotional constipation with the occasional unreliable narrator. I am all about weird romantic gestures and stuff that is stealthily fluffy. I LOVE pining, slow burn, and understated romances. I'm pretty much all about show, don't tell. I love stories about how pairings get together. I also love the "broke up because we were too young and not right for each other at the time, but now it's 10 years later and oh, look, it turns out that contrary to popular belief we ARE capable of emotional growth and still want to bang" plot arc. *facepalm*
I am equally excited about all the fandoms that I requested, so you can basically do no wrong. As always, optional details are optional! I will do some general brainstorming below, but if you already have something in mind, feel free to go with that!
Zootopia
Characters: Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde
Soooooo, I HARDCORE ship Judy/Nick. Oops. If you're okay with interspecies romances, I would LOVE a get-together story. If you're not, no worries! I would love a story about Nick learning how to let someone care about him and being kind of a butt about it, but eventually having some sort of emotional growth. Or something about adjusting to being a cop or struggling during training -- I can't imagine that everything just goes swimmingly from the get-go.
Washington Capitals RPF
Characters: Alexander Ovechkin
Ummmm, so I LOVE Ovi. My ultimate hockey OTP is Ovi/Sidney Crosby, which NEVER gets written and is obviously totally not something you have to do, but I figure I may as well mention it. I don't ship him with anyone else besides Sid, though, so if you don't pair him with Sid, please don't pair him with anyone else. I would love to read a story about Ovi struggling with being gay, or any sort of internal conflict, really.
iZombie
Characters: Liv Moore, Ravi Chakrabarti, Peyton Charles
I super hardcore ship both Liv/Ravi and Liv/Peyton (AND ALSO LIV/DRAKE, UGH, I'M SO MAD), though not all at the same time. If you don't want to write romance, I am absolutely in love with the banter/friendship between Liv, Ravi, and Peyton (and Major when he's not being a butt). For gen, I'd love something lighthearted and ensemble-y and possibly where they're all living together in a pal mansion.
• Liv/Ravi: I LOVE how delighted Ravi is by both Liv per se and also her zombie-ness. Their banter makes me so happy. I would love a story about Ravi being secretly in love with Liv (and unbeknownst to him, Liv develops feelings for him as well), but Ravi always deflects real emotions with humor until Peyton and/or Major knock some sense into him.
• Liv/Peyton: I would love a story about how they maybe realize their feelings for each other are mutual right before Peyton sees Liv in full-on zombie mode and before they have a chance to actually talk about their relationship, and the fallout from that.
You Could Make a Life Series - Taylor Fitzpatrick
Characters: Mike Brouwer, Liam Fitzgerald
So Mike and Liam's relationship obviously fits the "we weren't right for each other the first time around, but emotional growth, etc." narrative. I would love a story about how they negotiate their relationship the second time around, with lots of Mike quietly being miserable and thinking that Liam still deserves better than him and Liam being exasperated when he realizes what' going on. If you don't want to write Mike/Liam, I think the idea of Mike going to a therapist has so many possibilities for hilarity, with his therapist basically non-conning him into having better coping mechanisms and learning how to navigate ~feelings~.
Stranger Things (TV 2016)
Characters: Dustin Henderson, Nancy Wheeler, Demogorgon (Stranger Things), Eleven (Stranger Things)
No need to incorporate all the characters. I would take almost anything in this fandom. I love dark/creepy fic. I LOVE Nancy, and her evolution from a fairly normal teenage girl with teenage girl problems into a total badass. I would love an exploration of how she's changed since the events of the show.
For Dustin, I would love futurefic, possibly where he unexpectedly teams up with Nancy (or any of the others, honestly) to go fight another horror from the Upside Down. This could involve roadtrips or weird magic stuff or anything adventure-like, really.
For Eleven, I would love to see whatever theories you have about what happened to her after she vaporized the Demogorgon. I'm also really curious about her evolving relationship with Hopper. Or a futurefic where she's reunited with her mother.
Alice Isn't Dead (Podcast)
Characters: The Narrator (Alice Isn't Dead) Alice (Alice Isn't Dead)
I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS PODCAST. You could write literally anything. As mentioned above, I love dark/creepy fic. I would love reunification fic between Keisha and Alice that takes place far, far in the future. I would love fic about who the thistle men are and why they're there. World-building fic, road tripping fic, futurefic -- anything along those lines. I would love to read about Keisha slowly discovering who Alice actually is.
