2015: let's never do that again

Jan 01, 2016 17:21

Well, 2015 has been...calling it a rollercoaster would be the understatement of the year.

1. What did you do in 2015 that you'd never done before?

Take brain drugs. Be a bridesmaid. Finish and post a fic longer than 10K words. Get into hockey??? Go to a women's hockey game!!! Successfully hold wheel pose in yoga!

2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

2015 New Year's Resolutions:

1. Have 25 or less emails in gmail inbox (not including starred) at all times
*winces* I was doing okay for the first part of the year, but it's creeped back up again. I currently have 584, not including starred. Which, to be fair, is better than other years (hoving around 800-900), but still not great.

2. Read every day. Doesn't matter how much or for how long.
I was doing okay for the first part of the year too, and then moving and depression kind of derailed that.

3. Post 12 fics
Nope, but I did post my longest fic yet.

4. Finish knitting my scarf :3
Nope, oops.

5. Try to read 12 new books
Nope, sigh.

6. Get a new job
Yup.

7. Watch 50 new movies
I got to 38 -- not too shabby.

I'll make a separate post for this year's resolutions.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Nope.

5. What countries did you visit?

Switzerland again.

6. What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?

Possibly a significant other, but I'm pretty ambivalent about it.

7. What dates from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

April 6th -- the day I started my new job. Um. I'm pretty bad at dates, so that might be it?

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Getting myself the brain drugs I needed to dig myself out of the most severe depression I have ever experienced.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Letting my GREs expire without applying to grad school or even figuring out if I want to go to grad school. Not reading more. Not writing more.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?

I suffered from severe depression.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?

My roommate LM bought me FANGIRL for Christmas.
seascribe bought me adorable moose socks. :D I bought myself a mug that says, "WHITE MALE TEARS." Alex bought me Nimona and the Bee and PuppyCat comic for my birthday. :D

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

I never know how to answer this question. PK Subban, who made the largest single charitable donation ever by a Canadian athlete to a children's hospital?

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

Keeping my answer from 2013: humanity. Oh, also, Donald Trump.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Rent/bills. Moving.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

HOCKEY. Hamilton.

16. What song will always remind you of 2015?

Every song on the Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording. What Do You Mean? by Justin Bieber. *facepalm* Trap Queen by Fetty Wap. Every song that kiiara has released so far. Roses by The Chainsmokers ft. ROZES. Okay, I'll stop now.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? Happier. Yay brain drugs and not working retail.
b) fatter or skinner? Hmm. Probably the same? But healthier.
c) richer or poorer? Richer, definitely.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Same from 2013: I wish I'd written more. I wish I'd read more. I wish I'd traveled more. I wish I had hung out with fangirls more.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Be depressed.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

I got pho with my mom in Chinatown and then Alex came over and we hung out.

21. Did you fall in love in 2015?

With Hilary Knight?

22. How many one night stands?

None.

23. What was your favourite TV program?

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE. Elementary, after I finally caught up. MISS FISHER'S MURDER MYSTERIES.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Hmmm. I don't think so? Patrick Kane, but mostly because I didn't know he existed this time last year?

25. What was the best book you read?

Well, I only really read one new book, Gone Girl, which I did not like very much. I reread Lioness Rampant, which is always great. I read half of The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, which I'm really enjoying.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery of the year?

KIIARA.

27. What did you want and get?

A new job, even though it's been up and down. To live with friends.

28. What did you want and not get?

To go see Hamilton.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?

Oh, god. Probably a tie between Mad Max: Fury Road and Magic Mike XXL? DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I had work, then saw Jurassic World with J and his girlfriend. I turned 27.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Keeping my answer from 2013: if I had a pal mansion and all my friends lived with me. I mean, we'd all have our own suites, obviously, but we could hang out whenever we wanted. Also if I was independently wealthy and didn't have to work.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2015?

Still nerd chic.

33. What kept you sane?

Friends. Brain drugs. The internet at times. The Hamilton Original Broadway Cast Recording. Turnbull cat. My new roommates.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Sidney Crosby. *facepalm* Hilary Knight. JOHN BOYEGA.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

I actually tried not to get too overly involved in political issues this year for self-care reasons.

36. Who do you miss?

J, my college friend who moved to NYC. R, my former coworker who moved to Michigan for grad school. Alex, always.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

My two roommates, seascribe and LM.

38. What was the best thing you ate?

Probably something at Grills & Guitars, which was the Life Is Beautiful Festival kickoff party.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2015?

You will probably never have things figured out, and it's okay.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up the year.

How did I get here. -- How Did I Get Here / ODESZA
