Guppy comes in and looks around.

It is at this point that it occurs to him that he doesn't actually know how to play. But then again, none of his friends are going to cheat and he's sure he'll pick it up as he goes along. He smiles.

"Evening everyone."

Barry, who has been doing some last minutes food arranging - who knew he could be sucha perfectionist, is glad to see Guppy here and grinning.

"Welcome, Guppy. And everyone else, too. I think we have a quorum for this little shindig, so if you will all find places at the table..." And Barry sits first.

Guppy sits next to Barry, unsure if it matters where he sits.

Naraht glides up to an empty space at the table.

"Okay. Who's dealing first and what's the game?"

Gil takes a seat next to Naraht. "Texas Hold 'Em?"

Barry removes the seal from one of the boxes while wating for Hank to join the party. He begins to shuffle, making an effort not to do the fast shuffle trick he's a little too fond of.

Hank settles on a larger seat and grins.

"Shall we begin, gentlemen?"

It can't be that difficult.

Guppy watches the others, hoping to see what he has to do.

"Texas Hold 'Em would be perfect," Naraht says eagerly. "So...Barry's 'on the button', Guppy's the small blind and I'm the big blind? Are we doing fixed blinds or rising ones?"

gris_bug_man January 23 2006, 18:40:15 UTC
"We normally play with rising bets," Gil comments.

Barry begins to deal. Even while puzzled.

"Naraht, forgive me for asking, but is that 23rd century poker slang?"

Hank chuckles.

"Whatever the game, it sounds interesting."

Cue puzzled Horta. "Why no," he says. "Those are the terms Amanda taught me to go with this game. Risan nine-card isn't played with 'blinds'."

gris_bug_man January 23 2006, 18:47:46 UTC
"Actually, it is typical terminology. The 'button' refers to the dealer, or rather, a specific button the dealer wears while playing. When it is passed on, the hand is finished. Blinds are the bets."

Barry is more out of touch than he thought. And Naraht is clearly more in touch than Barry.

"Guess when you play cards in Vegas, Gil, and not Central City, you know these things.

"My apologies, Naraht." He finishes dealing.

Naraht shrugs. "No problem. I was just trying to make sure my last lesson stuck."

He picks up his two cards and examines them...

Fortunately Bar provided infra-red ink decks to Barry.

[ooc: Shall we have Amanda-mun start dealing us our cards?]
