Friday morning. 10 am. By any objective standard, Barry's room is not that bad, given the party the night before. He, however, sees the mess and determines that he will have to clean it. Later.
But not now. Now, he's sneaking back into the room with pancakes and coffee, and arranging it nicely on a breakfast-in-bed tray. He places a bouquet of shasta daisies in a vase, and then places a small rectangular box next to that on the tray.
He carefully carries it all to the bed, where Sara Sidle is sleeping. He places it down on the nightstand and sits quietly on the bed next to her. For just a moment, he studies her, and then gives here just a few more minutes sleep before he wakes her.
