A post Greeks bearing Gifts ficlet

Well, I was really annoyed by the way Owen treated Tosh at the end of episode 7 so I decided to write this little ficlet of a conversation after he’s calmed down a little bit. Of course, it meant I had to write an Owen/Gwen, which to me is against the laws of god and man, but here goes.

Owen found himself walking several times up to Toshiko’s door, raising his hand to knock, and walking away again. On the one hand he was bloody furious with her, on the other he knew his best friend had just been betrayed by someone she had come to care about and said someone had been sent into the sun. So he really should talk to her, preferably without shouting. As he raised his hand, again, the door swung open. Tosh was standing there, her eyes suspiciously red. All his fury melted away and he pulled the girl into a hug. She burst into tears.

Several minutes later, he was sitting in her kitchen as she moved around him, making coffees. His shoulder was still wet, and he was pretty sure she had surreptitiously blown her nose on his t-shirt. Still, they needed to talk, something that was rather difficult when one of them that wasn’t him was sobbing their heart out. He looked around the kitchen and his gaze caught the picture of the two of them on her fridge. At that point he knew that no matter how angry he was with her invasion of his privacy, and he was really pretty angry, that getting their friendship back on track was more important.

“I’m sorry.” They both started at once, before grinning slightly. He gestured for her to go first. He was pissed off after all, no need to let her off too lightly.

“I’m sorry I invaded your privacy like that. I had no right.”

“No, you didn’t. But I guess I can’t blame you. I’d probably have done the same in your position.”

“Probably?” Tosh cast him a knowing look.

“Ok, definitely. I’m only human.”

“So you and Gwen…” Tosh ventured unsurely, clearly uneasy about talking about what she had illicitly learned.

“Me and Gwen,” Owen nodded, staring into his mug of coffee. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you Tosh.”

“I take it Rhys doesn’t know.”

He gave the patented Owen look that he gave anyone who stated the obvious like that. It made her giggle and lightened the mood between them.

“You sure you know what you’re doing?”

“Nope. Aint got a clue. Just going where this take us I guess.”

“Just be careful.”

“Always am sweetheart.”

There was a long pause as Owen weighed up if things were good enough between them yet to ask the serious questions. He decided to start with the easiest.

“What happened to the pendant?”

“Destroyed it.”

“Good, means my secrets are safe again. Unless you decide to hack into my computer of course.”

“As if I would.” She tried to look innocent.

Deep breath. “Did you love her?”

She turned away, concentrating on her drink. “No. And yes.”

“I’m sorry.” He was being genuine, all hints of sarcasm gone. She started chewing on her lip, and he knew that he should have paid more attention to her recently. Especially after those cannibal freaks. He had been so focused on Gwen after she had been shot that he had ignored the fact that Tosh had been tied up and chased through the woods. No wonder she had turned to someone who offered her comfort and attention. Well, it stopped now. He could give equal attention to both of his girls, he could find the time. There were plenty of things that could be sacrificed like eating or sleeping. If it made them happy it would be worth it. Not going to sleep with Tosh though, it would feel like sleeping with a sister or something. Having said that, he mused, given some time for her to get over it he wouldn’t mind hearing some of the details of Mary’s special brand of comfort…
