Ah, So It Begins

For any of you who aren't artistic, most pieces of art that you see begin with a sketch. Sketches are often the most important difference between a Real Artist and someone with the tools. They're like the notes an author takes before writing a novel, or the first draft. They're not meant to really see the light of day, and are just to get an idea out as quickly as possible. Frequently, to demonstrate that the process isn't just like one day the person woke up and just drew a masterpiece from nowhere, artists will make some of their sketches public, so show, "See, before this was AWESOME, this was a load of scribbles."

Here's one of my own latest sketches for an idea I had:

This has the working title of "The General." The idea I see in my head is a woman general in her camp, in a rare moment where she's sort of admitting to herself how tired and worn-out she is, on her way toward something like yet another counsil session to determine the next move. The idea is to have a really dark camp, and have her sort of walking past it.

The rest of my day has been spent in odd ways. I did hang around deviantART for a bit. I moved clothing around to the dresser and such. And I played The Sims 3 briefly. I took out the last of the cardboard and picked up the messes the kittens had made with it. Speaking of kittens, I actually spent quite a bit of time just petting them. Every so often, I just spend a few hours playing the boys. I do spend some time every day playing with them, but the amount depends on all of our moods.

Anyway. I tried to work on the picture I was doing before, and all I did was fuck it up several times--each time I had to completely scrap what I was doing and try all over again. By the fourth time, I was really just messing up over and over. So. Try another day I guess. D=
