Lap Full of Purring Kittens

Okay. So, here's what happened.

I went to the house yesterday, fully intending to fall in love with Durante, the lovely dark kitty we found in PetCo. I was sure that I would know which one was him, instantly. But, when I went there, not only did I mistake his sister for him...but, when I went to pet him, and let him smell me first...he drew back, and skittishly ran away. I was like D= No way. This is NOT my cat. I was thinking of just going, all super disappointed, but then. I looked down, and there He was. This little orange kitten had walked right up to me (though I was a stranger), and started to check out my legs. I looked at him, and he looked at me, and it was like slow motion with music: He was my One.

And, strangely enough, his first name (then) was my last name. O_O We really were meant to be. The longer I was there though, the more this other kitten, much paler orange than the other, began to worm his way into my heart too. I knew that I was getting the first one, no matter what I had to do, but they seemed to come as a set. They were obviously Best Buds, and Marilyn (the woman who is their Foster Mommy), mentioned that she really would like to see them go to the same home. And by the end of my time there, and I spent two hours there, I knew. The first one was definitely Mine--he was bolder, more adventurous, more active. But the other, who was even sweeter and lover-like, would be right up Brian's alley.

So, in the end, I got them both. It was $100 for the pair of them. They're both neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, litter-trained, etc. They're also highly socialized, because they've been around people, loads of other kittens, and a dog. They love people, and are both really, really interested in whatever you're doing, wherever you are. They're both the kind of cat that when they can't find you, or don't know where you are, will wail until they hear your voice and then come into the room where you are.

And so, mine, the more mischevious of the lot, is named Loki. He's darker, with the cutest like bend at the end of his tail. You can actually tell which one's him in the dark this way. The other, "Brian's" cat he named Dante, because he loved the name, and this was how he imagined Dante to be. He's lighter (though ever so slightly bigger) with white paws. To be totally honest...once I got them in the apartment and was taking pictures of them, I realized that they looked a LOT like Sahara and Juno. O_O But, obviously, Loki isn't a Bengal, and Dante isn't a European Burmese. They both have amber eyes, but Loki's have a bit of green to them, and Dante's are a little brighter.

They also ADORE each other. They are the best of friends, and love to play together and sleep together. One of the guiding factors behind my decision to get the two of them, instead of the one, was that they will keep each other more social. Contrary to what some people believe, cats that are more interested in people and friendlier are cats who live with other cats. One-to-one is good for some breeds, because they hate to not be the center of attention, but these little guys don't mind sharing people. Also, with two cats, then we can have favorites and have sort of "our cat." It also means we don't have to vie for affections from one cat. They won't get bored as easily, and it's not a whole lot different from taking care of one cat.

SO! That said, it's PICTURE TIME!! =D =D Forgive the repetitive pictures. They ARE kittens, and it's hard to get a picture of them moving around that isn't a blur. So, most of their pictures are of them sleeping right now. They're actually napping in my lap as I write, because they played earlier. They're really babies. They play hard (especially the more active Loki) and then they sleep hard. Because Loki plays harder, he's also usually the first one to nap. Dante will sort of drift, and then move around. He's more alert, because he doesn't burn himself out. He really is Brian's cat. XD

They also slept with us on the bed last night, which is almost amazing. It often takes kittens a bit to get used to their new surroundings and people and get into a different rhythm. But, these guys really took to us. They love us, and we love them.

The kittens, fresh home, explore the bed. (Dante on left, Loki on right)

Dante, next to "his" territory--the blinds.

Loki (looking so much like Sahara here that I could gag), doing what he does best--looking for trouble.

Again, Dante, by the blinds. This really is his area.

Now, for comparison photos, for those who don't know Sahara or Juno:

We just adore our new furry babies. I've put their litter box in the room farthest from our bedroom--on the farthest wall. Kitten poo is notoriously stinky, and they're often just loud when they push around the litter. Their food is next to where we eat, and the kitchen. The proposed schedule is that Brian will wake up and feed them breakfast, and take out the litter poo. Then in the evenings, I'll feed them. I'm the one in charge of bathing them and clipping their nails. Yes, they do need baths, especially while Brian adjusts to his allergies. He's slightly allergic to them. Probably not from them, but from all the other cats they stayed with, and all the cat fur. BUT! Once I'm sure Loki's fully recovered from his surgery (neutering), they'll get baths. I know they'll hate it--they all do--but, I think if I start young, they'll get used to it faster. =D
