I might be able to get by through independent things, like I was doing in Florida before Godiva snatched me up. I am meeting a couple tomorrow about their 6-month-old baby who needs a three-day-a-week 3-to-4-hour nanny thing.
And I was contacted today about a couple looking for a reading/writing tutor for an 8-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy, both with delayed development (the boy from a repaired cleft palate). The girl is about at the level of maybe a 5-year-old as far as reading and writing goes. But, to me, it's really just a matter of a lot of patience when it comes to children that young. To add to the fun, the girl is SUPER girly and the boy is "ALL BOY" according to their parents. I mentioned that I swing both ways on that dial--I'm into cute, girly things like make-up and Hello Kitty...and on the flip side, video games, running and jumping games, and the like. It reminds me of when I was watching Alina and Sean. Try and think now how many things you can do with a Princess 3-and-a-half-year-old and a 12-year-old. Sometimes the best solution is to not try to come with the SAME thing...but, in fact, different things to do with each of them at the same time.
In either way, I'm interested. I would also like to be able to continue it into the summer. But, I'm still waiting to hear back on other tutoring for students through Crown-something. They're supposed to contact me sometime today or tomorrow about my application. If that works out well, and I can get maybe the substitute teaching thing in the tutor/teaching place. I need some things for my resume...and lots of other things for money. If I can jam pack my schedule with independent things, then I can afford the thins I need. But, I do need to get back into the workforce in some way, shape, or form. I need income, no matter how small at this point.
In other news! My mom is being nice and simple. I contact her now every few days, though she checks in almost every day with the "Still breathing?" text. No more drama there. In fact, the most dramatic it has gotten has been her hints about jobs. She thinks she's "helping" I'm sure, but it's really just annoying. Bringing up stuff like, "Portland's got a really high unemployment rate" is just irritating. Considering how many people are in search of a babysitter, tutor, and housecleaner on this one site alone...I'm sorry, but there ARE jobs out there. And other things like being a tutor or teacher in places is the kind of thing most people who have worked office jobs before don't think about when they get unemployed. And just because people are unemployed doesn't mean that there aren't jobs--it means that people don't have jobs. That may mean that someone with a degree like mine may have a chance at getting a job where someone else may not. And additionally, there are strange aspects of jobs that most people don't always consider when they look for a job. And some people are only looking for jobs that will pay their bills...which are far more extensive than mine. A simple retail job would do the trick for me, or even Brian.
And to put someone like Milly at ease, even at its worse, there are still jobs to be found. There are more things here than there seem. And there are odd jobs as well. I mean, I've been tracking down jobs for awhile now, and at the very least, no one has cited "the economy" or "the off-season" as it was in Florida. It's only been several weeks. Until it's been 3 months with still no jobs, we can't really complain. It was a lot harder to find a job in Florida, with less unemployment...but more RETIRED people NOT LOOKING for jobs, and less jobs to be found period. I'm sorry, but unemployment rate is only ONE way to judge possible success at finding a job somewhere, as any psychologist or statistician would know: never base a complicated process on one factor.
Anyway. We're off to maybe try some of the public transit and walk around Portland. =) I'm waiting to hear back from people's, and have my "interview" tomorrow. So, today is pretty much Laundry and Walking Day. Go us.
