So I'm in a bit of a predicament right now...
I just got a phone call from my sister about a job offer - a desperate job offer. Normally she wouldn't have asked me, considering I have no experience in her trade, but she is exactly that - desperate. She's a housing/cleaning manager at a hotel, so it's her duty to hire and supervise the cleaning staff for the hotel. The problem: she had 4 girls quit in the last month, there's only one cleaner available, and they're full-house this next week.
Here's the shortened version of our convo:
- If I accepted, I would bing-bang-boom start on Monday.
- My sister would train me, as I've got next to no experience in cleaning for the public.
- I would start sometime around 7-8 am.
- If I accepted, I would be starting at about $12 an hour, with a raise after 3 months.
- After six months, I would recieve gratuities every 2 weeks.
I'm very conflicted though, because:
- I have no experience in the hotel business.
- I don't know where the hotel is, or how I would get there.
- Who takes care of chelsea if she stays home during the week?
- Same thing as above, but for the summer; who takes care of her during the summer??
I really don't want to let Mindy down, and having a source of income would be great, but what if I disappoint her regardless, and end up getting fired? It's terrifying, and I really don't want to reck our relationship like that. That's why I usually don't want to work in places where I know people.
On the other hand, I really really really need the money, not to mention the independence.
I have to respond to her by tonight, so I need to think over it. But in the mean time, what do you guys think of this predicament?
