apartment talk and movies

When I moved for my job, I had a weekend to find and put down a deposit on a place, and then the next weekend to move my belongings before I started work the following Monday. Which is how I ended up with my odd studio apartment. I don't think I would have chose it if I had more time to look, but it was the best I could find on that weekend.

Some of the quirkier things I discovered after moving in:

-My hot water heater is rated for 10 minutes of hot water. I thought I was just crazy and taking a longer shower than I imagined, but this number has been confirmed by my landlord.
-My kitchen sink is the size of a bathroom sink-- the faucet IS a bathroom faucet.
-Instead of a dishwasher, in that space is a non-working mini-fridge.
-My kitchen cabinets look like they belong on a ship; they are metal.
-One of the windows has its screen held in with duct tape.
-You must walk through the closet to get to the bathroom.

But, the location-- the reason I ended up choosing it-- is great. Across the street from the supermarket, two blocks from a CalTrain station, two buildings over from a satellite police station (hooray safety), three blocks away from a fire station. The last two were slightly more important when I lived alone, but even now, its still nice. And despite a list that probably comes off as complaints, I really do like my place.

In other news, hooray for a short week. We went and saw 9 this week. I don't think its going to replace my love affair with Wall-E, but it was really beautiful to watch and I liked the story, even if a lot of critics didn't.
