Ubuntu Experience: Close, but No Cigar

It's finally happened again.

I think Chrome may have lasted a tiny bit longer than Firefox before it finally started to freeze everything up. For a minute there, I honestly thought just switching to a different browser would solve my problems. I'm starting to think that the problem may be deeper than that, that the hardware and everything is just too old. Like I've said before, I've had this Gateway for about 7 years now; a lot of devices do well to last half that long. Yes, one option would be to just trash my Gateway, but I have this thing about really getting the very last ounce of utility out of the electronic devices I use, especially if they tend to be pricey or if the device in question still runs and does what I need it to do. I want to keep this thing around because what functionality it still has currently outweighs its bugs and other issues. I don't like just dropping a computer I've had for a while when the smallest problem crops up.
