Heather has a long and convoluted history in the Silent Hill series. She was originally Alessa Gilespie, the daughter of Silent Hill’s cult leader Dalia Gilespie. Dalia wanted to bring about the birth of the town’s “God” and since her daughter was said to have “powers” she used her as a vessel for said God. The first time this was attempted the “birth” didn’t go according to plan, half of her soul separated from her and became the baby that Harry and his wife adopted (and named Cheryl) and the Gilespie house caught on fire. Alessa was badly burnt but saved by a passing truck driver (Travis Grady) and taken to hospital where she remained in a secret room for many years.
Elsewhere Cheryl was raised by her loving foster parents and grew into a sweet, innocent girl. One day when she was out for a drive with her father they crashed their car and the two separated. Harry searched for Cheryl in the haunted town of Silent Hill until he came across his daughter, who had “fused” with the rest of Alessa. Alessa gave birth to the God her mother had wanted her to years passed but Harry killed it to release what was left of the daughter he had loved and raised. Alessa helped Harry to escape and offered a new baby of the combined souls of herself and Cheryl.
Harry and the reborn Cheryl/Alessa live in fear of being tracked down by the Silent Hill cult, eventually he decides to rename his daughter Heather and dye her hair blonde to try to disguise her.
Heather lives a casual, easy life with her father (who she loves dearly) until one day she’s approached by a strange, middle-aged detective (Douglas Cartland) who says that someone has been searching for her and how he wants to take her to them. Heather refuses and flees. As she flees she comes across a variety of bizarre, twisted creatures... Skinless dogs, armless bodies, bloated monsters. She manages to defend herself from the various beasts until she comes across a strange woman named Claudia (from the Silent Hill cult) who tells her that she will birth a new God and lead everyone to paradise. Heather, being the cynical teenager she is, shakes off this ridiculous notion and demands to know if Claudia is behind the summoning of all these strange creatures... But Claudia simply says it is the “will of God” and escapes.
Traveling through the monster-infested shopping mall, subway and office buildings Heather finally finds her way home to confide in her father about the disturbing happenings... However, when she does get home she finds her father has been brutally murdered and finds out that Claudia is behind it.
Enraged Heather tracks Claudia to Silent Hill to wreak her revenge. After being led along by another cult member (Vincent) she passes through the twisted hospital and finally a haunted amusement park until she comes across the Silent Hill church where Claudia resides. Vincent tries to stop Claudia but is killed in the process and Claudia calls forth the sleeping God that is now inside Heather. Heather manages to resist by swallowing the Aglaophotis that her father left her and she throws up the half-formed God. Crushed, Claudia takes the fetus and swallows it, forcing herself to birth it.
Claudia dies and Heather destroys the deformed God... When the battle is finally over she collapses and sheds the well overdue tears for her deceased father. Some time later she approaches Douglas and it’s hinted at that he takes her in as a surrogate daughter.
[ Personality ] :
Heather is a complicated young woman, with all of the different “souls” in her it’s understandable that she can come across as aggressive, easily frustrated and confused. As the events of Silent Hill unfold we see her go through a variety of revelations to do with her past, but she manages to take it all in her stride. What Heather hates more than learning the ugly truth of her “past lives” is the confusion surrounding it. The cultists (Claudia and Vincent) are very ambiguous about her past and this really frustrates her, she hates being kept in the dark or treated like a child.
Despite bad mood swings Heather’s a relatively balanced person, she loves and defends her father (snapping aggressively at Vincent when he puts Harry down). She’s devastated at his death and when she learns about how Harry loved her, despite not knowing “who or what she was” she quietly thanks him for doing so. Early on the game she calls him on the phone and she is seen smiling and casually joking with him, the bond Heather has to her father is very strong.
Heather also has a terrible, black sense of humor. She jokes about the hideous and bizarre things she comes across and even pretends that she’s going to stab Douglas for a practical joke. Heather’s cynicism and sense of humor are two of the main things that help her deal with the incredibly difficult situation she’s been placed in. It keeps her feeling level-headed and practical, she feels that if she can joke about a situation, then it can’t be all that bad.
Heather has an interest in the occult and the paranormal (which isn’t surprising considering the repressed memories of her former lives), she regularly reads trashy publications on UFO sightings, ghosts, etc. and casually claims that “it’s just for fun”, whether she really takes any stock in the things she reads is unknown -although she may do after the events of Silent Hill!
The father and daughter bond between Heather and Harry was strong, although she was always “his little girl” Heather certainly has a naughty side. She refers to hang overs, smoking and she carries around a switchblade at the start of the game claiming that carrying it around makes her feel “safe”.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Heather is strong (both mentally and physically), extremely determined and has experience using a vareity of gruesome and fun weapons. However, she is also naive, impressionable, stubborn, easily offended and she has a mild phobia of dogs and insects.
