It began like indigestion, a little nagging discomfort through her happiness when he smiled. She saw the world in his eyes and her dreams in his lips. His empty words were silence to her ears and she would fill them with promises, moonlight and star shine, turning every feeble lie into something she could keep locked, pressed to her chest.
He was a limp impression of a boy and man, insecure, inadequate, pompous in every step and gesture, but to her he was walking on clouds, coming down from on high to grace her with a sweet sneer. She lapped up his ridicule like sweetest honey, feeling it drip down to drown her.
“How?” She had whispered in reverie, but he only raised an imperfect perfect eyebrow.
Hopelessly, it overtook her to the tips of her toes as she struggled to understand it.
But then, who can explain love?
