Wow
God some people are just so fucking kind. I applied for a job at the beginning of the week to work on a small but very interesting offshoot of a huge, pan-European cancer project. Bad timing, as I needed be working on PhD, not c.v. and application forms, but it had to be done. Today, I received a call from the guy in charge to say that I wouldn’t be called for interview as they needed someone with different expertise to mine (more administrative it seems), but he’d love to meet up after I’ve submitted as there are other areas within the project for which they really could use my skills, but aren’t yet funded.
He was so sweet and concerned for me; asked if there was anything he could do to help or if I needed anything read, and even offered to buy me a printer if I hit problems over the weekend. Genuinely! This is from a man I’ve not even met. I can’t believe it, baring in mind the hands off attitude I’ve had from people who were meant to be involved in what I was up to. We talked science and will meet up next week to continue, and may try and put together a joint grant proposal. That would be so cool.
Shouldn’t be updating, but hey, it’s good to know the world’s a nice place sometimes.
