Dear Yuletide Author, 2009
Dear Yuletide author,
Thank you for doing yuletide for me this year. I'm very easily satisfied for the most part, though I can under stand if some of my pairing choices/prompts have you going, wha? Here's last years yuletide letter which already covers much of what I'm going to say.
Things I like in fic include: fluff, bickering, lots of character interaction, romance, friendship, male bonding, mush, hurt/comfort, conflict and humor.
Things I dislike: Character bashing (unless it's IC for the character to hate another character/trash talk him), gorn (violence is obviously okay considering my choice in fandoms, but I don't want to be vomiting for days on end), forcing characters to be OC in order to make them fit seme/uke stereotypes (though I'm actually okay with characters taking certain roles in relationships as long as it fits.)
Samurai Warriors: In the last year or so, KanetsuguxMasamune has become my favorite otp/genship. The 2008 letter explains it best, but I love their arguing, especially because sometimes, I think it bugs them when the other makes a good point, which happens more often than not.
I also love the fact that Kanetsugu is just… dorky as all hell, but when he wants to be, a bit of a bastard, capable of trying and offing his own friends, though not without taking his own life. He's smarter than some of fandom gives him credit for, but far too stubborn and caught up in his own momentum at times and doesn't always immediately see the good in people who piss him off.
As for Masamune, he's just so hilariously bitter and tsun-tsun and so clearly wants acceptance, despite his attitude to the contrary, but he thinks he has to be strong and that he doesn't need it, yet his death quote to Kanetsugu in Warriors Orochi makes it clear that he wishes for some form of acknowledgement from the one person he supposedly hates the most.
Just have them bug each other, yuletide author. Maybe they're forced to work together. Maybe one of them has the other at their mercy. Maybe Kanetsugu has an "Oh crap, Masamune isn't entirely wrong" moment. Maybe Masamune decides that he finally can't take anymore and decides to teach Kanetsugu a lesson.
I love gen for this pairing just as much as slash, so if you don't feel up for writing some boy's love, some grudging friendship/enemy fic is fine with me.
Sengoku Basara: I am entirely new to this fandom and I'm only really familiar with the anime. Admittedly, I'm hoping more for ShingenxKenshin fic than MasamunexYukimura since the latter two already have enough of the fandom spotlight, though I still like that pair quite a bit.
Shingen and Kenshin's friendship has always appealed to me, ever since I played Samurai Warriors and seeing Basara's version of it is no different. Hell, they shared the same dream. Anything dealing with the almost spiritual bond they share would be appreciated. Even fic set in the past, detailing the start of their friendship would be wonderful.
And if one was to got the MasamunexYukimura route, I'd love to see some comparisons between them and ShingenxKenshin. Only with far more violence of course. Or maybe even seeing them move beyond that over the years, if that's even possible.
As usual, slash or gen are equally appreciated. No matter what though, keep it manly, in that way that only Sengoku Basara can be. :D
Samurai Deeper Kyo: Akira and Benitora have, for me, one of the best friendships in all of SDK. They have this brutally rough start, but at the end, Akira is happy to where Benitora's bandana on his sword. Anything on their friendship is appreciated, along with all the bickering and if the anon is so inclined, slash as well.
Otherwise, if that's not your cup of tea, anything about Bontenmaru. Anything at all. He gets no mention in fandom, despite being one of Four Emperors and in many ways, acting as the backbone of the team, watching out for his friends when necessary, often sacrificing the chance to fight just to give the others a shot at glory. Fic about his real life, about his Four Emperor days, him hanging with Muramasa, his later days during the Tokugawa era, anything would be appreciated. I'm not picky on pairings with him. Gen, Slash, Het, OCs, canon characters, his real life wife, concubines or his one male lover, it's all good. As long as Bon is the focus.
Tales of the Abyss: Just lots and lots of snark, along with that strange sort of respect and trust that developed between them. Seeing how Luke changed in the year he'd be away and whether or not it changes Jade's opinion of him would also be much appreciated. As always I like both gen and slash.
If people feel more comfortable with the gen option than the slashy student/teacher option, I’m comfortable with Luke being paired with Tear, though with Jade, I don't really care to see him paired with Guy or Peony. Otherwise, whatever side pairings you want are fine, as long as the fic focuses on the friendship between Luke and Jade.
