You know, if you read a historically based series that features events that actually occurred in real life and characters who fictional versions of people who actually lived, it might be a good idea to read a little on them. I'm not talking college level research of even grade school: just a quick google or search on wikipedia would be nice. Especially if you plan on actually, I dunno, rping/writing fic about said character/event/era.
Even if your canon takes obvious liberties with said historical events/persons/other such things/it's still nice and can actually generate some cool ideas. It can even be fun (yes, I dared to call research fun--stfu, it totally can be). And this goes for other things like illness.
