I’m participating in an ATC swap… that would be an artist trading card swap. Each artist takes a piece of paper, or cardboard, or some sort of material that is in the dimensions of 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches. The front is decorated as the artist sees fit, and on the back is written your name, date, title of the piece and number of the edition (if it’s more than one of a kind - ie. 3 of 12). Some artists include bios and contact info.
For me, I greatly enjoy incorporating text into my art. The written word is one of my art forms and I like linking it in with the visual art I create.
For this project I have two ideas.
One is to create an ATC with a person upon it, and have their hands extended as if they are reading a book. Then I would sew a little pouch into the ATC and make a series of little mini-books that could be placed into the person’s hands. I would make these mini-books based on little stories of my life, poems I’ve written, or maybe even works that have inspired me.
The other idea I’m playing with is to create a image on the bottom… some sort of art of mine. Then overtop I would layer projector sheets with text on them. I’d layer enough of these that the underneath image is blacked out by all the script. I’d put a rivet in the top corner so that these sheets can be moved aside and read, and the underlying image can be seen.
