A few people have been asking me what I want for my birthday/ for Christmas. So I thought that I would take the pain in the arse-ness out of it and just post a list people can come to and reference. I’m posting it in a place where I can edit it and change it as time progresses, and where it can live permanently if people know where it is.
So here it is: Shannon’s wish list
1. Nothing. Absolutely and absolutely nothing. I appreciate that you want to give me something, but it’s usually a commercial selling point. I don’t want you to feel obligated, or that you have to because it’s a certain date. I would rather know that you’re thinking of me.
2. If you really want to get me something, then make me something. I greatly value the time and effort people put into something made with thought. Some very simple and easy homemade gifts I have received have brought me to tears for the sheer love that was expressed in the gift.
3. If you’re not crafty, or just can’t think of something I might want, then offer me your skills and services. I’m sure I have projects that you can work on, or would love to have you watch the kids so I could go out. If you have a particular talent that you think I could make use of, then I’d love that!
4. Something that screams SHANNON WOULD LOVE THIS!
5. Cash. Really. It’s underrated as a gift. I can get what I really need. Or gift certificates can be good too: Superstore, Sobeys, Addition Elle, Salvation Army, the Art Shack, Michael’s, Canadian Tire/Home Hardware, Sears, Passage, Frenchy’s, Pink Sushi, Zen Garden, Calactus, Empire Theatres, etc.
6. If you really need a list of items I would like, then here you go:
- a clothesline
- a good knife set
- 2nd tier of my herb garden prepared
- acrylic paints
- nice brushes
- quality canvases
- bigger deep freeze
- new couch
- covered litter box
- pot holders
- linen closet (carpentry + drywall work)
- wall paint
- gate for the deck
- a good paper cutter
- stand mixer
- salad spinner
- lessons for: skating, dancing, art, French
- gym membership to NuBody’s or the YMCA
