I thought I would go over the game plan so that you at least know that I have a game plan.
Since we're starting up where we left off (week 14), there is a lot of room for special contests coming very soon. I wanted to start this first contest with an air of familiarity, so I left it to the actor and the movie, however we are going to start in on updating the site together.
Start putting on your thinking caps because we're going to create a new banner, new icons (mod/community) and firm up the old rules while leaving them flexible enough for the new crowd.
Yes, new crowd.
That's a subtle way of saying that I'm trying to tell everyone that this community is back up and running properly. I started with the affiliate list ... you'll notice it's completely up to date. Every community listed there has us listed in return and is active.
The first phase of the plan was to contact all of the above and tell them we were operating again. I don't know why they kept us on considering we've been down for a year, but I'm glad they did. I asked for some spotlight time, just a once-and-never-ask-again mention that we're here to their community members.
Next is going to be to find some new affiliates. Once word starts circulating, we should be fine.
I'm going to follow in the ideals of what this community was before. There will be no harassment or guilt trips to enter a contest. If no one is interested in a specific actor or movie, then forcing them isn't going to make it any better. If there are two icons, they're getting awards. Simple as that.
I'd really like to keep the original rules going for now. I noticed that there was a debate over animated icons, I'm going to poll you again to see if you want to be a stillness community or not.
I'm going to take the same steps to keep your icons anonymous, i.e. load them up onto my own photobucket with changed names and scrambled order. Respect for one another is key here, we are a very specific community with very refined taste (obviously) and I'm sure we won't have any trouble with cheaters or bad losers.
I want to continue the trend of having one actor a week, a man one week and a woman the next, just as it has been. I, also, want to permanently add a movie each week. It seemed to be random before. I'm not entirely sure how that worked, sometimes it was a special, sometimes a movie ... sometimes both. I'd like to cement what to expect.
As was before, I liked the finding your own stock photo to make your icon out of. A poll is added to see if you want a separate contest for pre-cut base or a specific stock photo.
Monthly will continue to be a famous pair (or more) of actors that you usually see together.
Please help spread the word that we're back, I really want this community to return to its former glory. It was one of the really respectable and tasteful ones out there and I think that if everyone pitches in, it will be again.
Any commentary you might have, questions ... ideas ... suggestions ... requests ... please let me know. I promise to listen. I also promise to only run this community and not any others, I don't want to burn out.
So! Without further ramble, we're back in business.
I'm going to wait until May to post a monthly competition.
