The last week or so has really gone by quickly. Actually it's felt more like a blur of double shifts, chores, (some) video games, and problems with the phone service (thanks to the DSL). I suppose I'll start with the highlights from the last week or so.
Last Tuesday a few of co-workers and I took the day off and drove up to Dorney Park in Allentown. We stayed for the entire day and for the most part I had fun. I've come to realize that I'm not a thrill ride sort of person, nor will I ever be, so I sat out for a majority of the rides. One one water ride, the sun was glaring and I actually forgot to take off my sun glasses. They were quickly lost forever during the touch down splash, which still bothers me, because they were the pair that I picked up while in New York City. I don't think I'll ever find a silver pair like that again any time soon, at least not without paying part of my arm for the price of a pair. I did play a few amusement games and managed to win myself yet another husky plushie on my first attempt. My co-workers blamed it on video games as I smirked holding my fluffy prize. We played again and I lost, as the friend of a co-worker who won shouted "In your face, bitches!". She ended up leaving with a bag full of stuffed animals, from all of the games she played. On the way back we got lost because the car's GPS unit refused to work until after we managed to find our way (after going in the wrong direction for nearly an hour).
On the video game front I'm nearly finished with The World Ends with You but gave the game rest to take advantage of the fact that points can be gained while not playing. Although I did manage to get to a preview of the final boss before having to turn the game off before work while playing one night. It was then that I decided to try a few more options before ending the game. For the time being I've gone back to Daxter and I've finally gotten past a stealth mission that I had been hung up on for months. Now I'm probably very close to finishing the game and probably will do so before starting on Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions.
The double shifts have been going well, but they've been tiresome. Thanks to the whole ordeal with Mark I've been working midnight doubles on Monday nights and Tuesday nights instead of a day double on Monday. The job is as hot, frustrating and boring as ever during the graveyard shift hours, but the increase in pay is worth it for now. Thanks to cutting back on driving and working doubles at the job, I've managed to save up the money I needed for the trip, in addition to funding other things. Unfortunately, I'll still be working the doubles after I get back and I don't feel like driving as much any more. So the extra money I make from work after Otakon will be devoted to paying off bills and saving up money.
Speaking of bills, we're still trying to get the DSL sorted out. As far as the internet goes, the DSL works just fine. But thanks to the modem we occasionally have strange noise problems with the phone. I made sure all of the phones had DSL filters put on them, and I moved the modem around so the special phone line that it came with plugs directly into the wall's jack. At first that seemed to solve the problem with the noise, but without warning it suddenly came back today. So now I have to spend more time on the phone with Cavalier and they'll probably have to test our phone lines. I just hope that the problem can be fixed without having to go back to Cable just to have a clear phone line. (Comcast has given us to the 15th to strike a temporary deal with a cheaper internet bill but I'd rather not return to them at all.)
Finally, tomorrow I head out for Otakon. If anyone would like to meet up, let me know! I'm not sure if I'll be taking my laptop or not for internet access, but I might give it a try. I'll probably spend the rest of the day and some of tonight packing. Otherwise, there's much else to say about the convention. I'd be excited but I'm just so tired from the double shifts and the lingering problems with DSL that almost all of my enthusiasm has been killed.
