No, I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth. Although I have gone into somewhat of a school-induced seclusion mode. I've finally come up with a schedule to keep up with the demands of summer school. It pretty much involves reading and doing school work almost all of the time, other than the weekends and being at work. I've even given up on driving to the train station in favor of the bus so I can do more reading. Now that I've been making much better progress, I feel as if I've gained a measure of control over this school semester. The work is intense, but I feel as if I can do it and that I won't bomb this semester as long as I remain focused.
My Marketing class is coming along better. I finally have the gist of what I'm supposed to do for the daily pop quizzes. I've also managed to focus my attention enough to get through each textbook chapter in about an hour (give or take some time).l Although the massive tests that we have every other Thursday remain a challenge. Fortunately our professor does have some mercy and A's are based on the highest score, not getting all of the questions right. So a 30 out of 50 can suddenly become an A or B if the highest score is only 35. Thank God, because we're going through the material so fast that there isn't any time to really absorb it. Though I can see where the communications part of this course is handy for my Journalism major.
American Literature remains a mixed bag. Sometimes it's fantastic to simply sit around and discuss literature, if I like the story. If I didn't get it, I either feel frustrated for not reading it twice or silly for not getting it, like some of the English majors do. I have found a few good stories that I like and I think I've found two to base my paper on. I don't know why I'm a sucker for stories with foreshadowing and sudden violence, but I am. I've also come to like Flannery O'Conner's work and I can't wait to get a collection of her works when I get out of school. As usual, James Baldwin is still awesome and I'm never bored with his work. Oh, and getting back to the paper, our American Literature professor also has some mercy in her and pushed the paper back by a week. Definitely good news for me, since I don't have time to fully research things like I want to.
In other news, I'm all registered for Otakon, Taalib still lives here (but he finally got his car back), the weather has been decent and I'm sick of reading about how great UPS is in my Marketing class textbook. (Why can't my UPS be like that? Oh wait, it happens to be one of the worst hubs in the country.) Anyway, time to run I don't want to be late for the work, even if the shift is run by retards who can't tie their own shoes.
