robot update!

I got a robot vacuum! I didn't get around to unpacking it for several days because when I've got my long list, even opening up a new toy feels like a chore. But I finally unpacked my Neato, and they tried to make it nice and easy to get started. I had a bit of trouble because I don't have common sense and kept going into the menu and selecting "spot clean", which made it go in a circle and then proclaim itself done, but then I figured out to just push the big orange button, and the Neato went off to do its work.

Neato did get stuck a few times and wanted me to move obstructions (like a chair leg) out of the way, but it's a clever little robot in general. It saves its path into memory and when it's running low on batteries, it returns to home base to recharge before resuming its clean. I wasn't super-impressed the first time, seeing spots where it had missed picking up litter, but then I opened the dust collector-- it was completely full of hair and litter! WOW. I tried running it in the sunken living room area, but came home to find it stuck in the fireplace. It did well upstairs though, wandering through two rooms and even under the bed. I think I can alternate running it on the main floor (avoiding the sunken living room, which doesn't tend to get very dirty anyway) and the second floor, and it will keep me much saner between my full-scale vacuums. Too bad it doesn't do stairs, which seem to catch all dust and hair from the cats. But yay in general!

Still waiting for a deal before I get a Litter Robot, but so far, modern technology looks like it's going to greatly improve my life. Yay!!
