Hermione stirred her bowl, trying not to laugh. "You know, this wasn't entirely what I thought you would plan for our first date."

Grinning, Charlie licked the ice cream from his lips. "Thought dinner would be too serious. Not really us, yeah? All that candlelight and stuff. I thought we could try and ease into this dating thing." He took a big spoonful of chocolate ice cream, ignoring how Hermione shook her head in amusement. It wasn't every day that she came to Florean Fortescue's and it was even rarer for her to have company.

She sighed, sitting back in her chair. "I think I've eaten too much ice cream," she announced, twisting her spoon between her fingers.

Charlie shook his head. "No. That's not possible. You can never have too much ice cream." He waved his spoon, splattering small blobs of the cold dessert on the table. "Especially chocolate." He licked his spoon. "And don't even get me started on the wonder that is double chocolate fudge."

Hermione narrowed her eyes. "Are you sure you're not a woman? Your name's really Charlotte, isn't it?" She reached across the table, snagging a spoonful of Charlie's ice cream; her own bowl had been strawberry and peanut butter, but Charlie's double chocolate fudge was looking exceedingly tempting, especially with the smell of the hot chocolate sauce lingering in the air.

He laughed at this. "Looks like you've discovered my dirty little secret, Miss Granger." He took another mouthful of ice cream. "Beneath this butch male exterior beats the heart of an even butcher lesbian." He winked at her.

Trying her best not to giggle, Hermione scraped up the last of her ice cream. "This is nice," she said finally. "I thought it was going to be different. This isn't, like, a really romantic date or anything - which I'm glad about, actually - but it's... nice."

Charlie nodded. "I know what you mean. And you put that a lot more articulately than I could, which is really saying something." He paused, ruminating over the last of his ice cream. Finally, Charlie leant over the table, brushing his lips against hers. "How about now?" he asked tentatively. "Different?"

Hermione blinked, not at all sure what to say. "Um. Yes. I think so. We've... never done that before."

"No, we haven't," Charlie agreed. His eyes darted around nervously before finally settling on Hermione's face. "So... good different?"

She licked her lips. "I think so," Hermione said after a moment. "Definitely different. I... we might have to do it a few times to get some idea of the long-term effects, though. It might be a case of trial and error. Trying out new things."

"I like the way you think," Charlie agreed with a sage nod. "Maybe we can come up with a few other ways to test the long-term effect on our relationship."

Hermione grinned, no longer feeling the same nervousness that she had at the start of their date. "Great minds think alike."
