Summary: A series of related, but not exactly sequential, moments in Harry and Ron's relationship.

G is for Girl Trouble

Ron flops onto his sleeping bag, punching at his makeshift pillow. He growls, turning to face Harry as he props himself up on his elbow. “Why do girls have to be so, so, so…”

“Infuriating?” Harry suggests, raising his eyebrows, intrigued by Ron’s rant.

“No. So…”

“Selfish?”

“No. That’s not it.”

“Annoying?”

“No! Why do girls have to be so… girly?” Ron sighs and lies back, idly kicking at the roof of the Muggle tent with his bare foot. “I just don’t get them.”

Harry stretches his leg, nudging Ron’s shin with his foot. “Who says you have to?”

Ron stares. “Oh,” he says.

H is for Hermione

Ron and Harry make Hermione feel like she belongs. For once, part of a group, not like when she was younger - it’s never been easy for her to make friends. Sometimes the boys don’t realise when they accidentally push her out, though.

She doesn’t blame them, not a single little bit. They deserve to be happy and she’s been part of their lives for long enough to see that being together makes them happiest of all.

Even when the two of them are ‘Harry and Ron’, she knows that ‘Harry, Ron and Hermione’ is there in the background. She’s not letting them get out of her life that easily, not after everything they’ve been through together.

I is for Interruptions

“When we finally get to be alone, I’m going to…”

“Ron! Come and help your sister lay the table.”

Ron winces at the sound of his mother’s voice. Lunch is nearly ready and she’s been keeping them busy all morning, cleaning out the chickens and weeding the garden. One of Ron’s brothers always seems to conveniently come out to check on them or give them another instruction just as they think they’ve got a moment alone together.

Harry sighs in frustration. “Later,” he promises, “I’m going to…”

“Ron!” Ginny sounds annoyed, but she sounds like that a lot these days.

Ron rolls his eyes and grabs Harry, pulling him forward for a kiss. Harry’s cross-eyed when he pulls back and Ron grins. “I think actions speak louder than words.”

J is for Jumpers

Harry hisses as his foot touches the cold floor. It had been considerably warmer when he had gone to bed. He withdraws his foot back into the warmth of the bed for a moment, summoning up the courage to throw back the duvet. He does it in a swift action, cringing and shoving his feet into nearby slippers as he grabs the jumper from the woolly pile on the floor.

He crosses to the window, pulling it firmly shut. The thick wool scratches a little against his skin. Yawning, Harry ignores it, already mentally in a hot shower as he walks out into the kitchen.

“That’s my jumper,” Ron says, looking at him from behind the newspaper.

“Want it back?” Harry pushes his glasses up his nose.

Ron smiles. “Nah. Looks good on you.”

K is for Kissing

It doesn’t come naturally like Harry thought it might.

The first time they kiss, Ron starts to giggle and Harry’s sure that it’s all a big mistake. He pulls away, scowling and turns to leave, but Ron grabs his wrist and pulls him back, grinning. They kiss again; this time it’s better.

Sometimes, they bump noses, not quite sure how far to turn their heads. Harry bashes his nose on Ron’s chin once, but Ron just kisses it better.

Harry’s breathless when Ron breaks a kiss. “My glasses are all smudgy,” he says. Ron laughs and kisses a lens.

L is for Laundry

“Harry, what’s the matter?” Hermione asks gently. “You’ve been in a foul mood all day.”

Harry scowls. “Don’t ask me. I’m not the one with the problem. Ask him.”

“Him?” Hermione frowns, then sighs. “Have you two had a falling out?”

Harry rolls his eyes.

“Hermione,” Ron calls from the other side of the tent, “can you tell Harry to move his dirty socks before I gag.”

“Harry…”

“Hermione.” Harry turns to look at her. “Tell Ron it’s his socks that smell.”

“Stop it!” Hermione demands before Ron can retort. “You’re best friends! Stop being so… silly!”

Cautiously, they look at each other for the first time in hours. Harry’s expression softens; he hates being mad at Ron. “I’ll move them in a minute,” he promises.

“Yeah. Could you help with the laundry charms? I don’t want to muck it up again.”

“Sure.”

Hermione shakes her head and mutters, “Boys,” stepping out of the tent for some fresh air.

*****

M is for Monster

Harry’s seen a lot of things that he wished he hadn’t. Horrible things that no-one should see, but that tear him up inside like a monster trying to claw out of his chest as he thinks about them. The monster makes him want to roar, too, loud and hard until his throat is raw.

But there are some things that make the monster lie down and behave. A good song on the wireless, winning at Quidditch, the last Chocolate Frog.

And Ron.

Ron makes the monster purr, makes it curl up in a proud ball and press against Harry’s ribs until he feels like he could burst in the best sort of way.

“Alright, mate?” Ron’s fingers stroke the hair from Harry’s forehead.

“Hmmm? Oh. Yeah.”
