Sometimes sanity takes vacation, time on leave; I'm beginning to understand

Ahh, poor neglected LJ. What have I been doing to abandon you so?
Unfortunately, not much. Not in the scheme of things, really.
If you put it in a list it seems like a fair amount since I last posted. That's if you dont take in how long it's actually been and how many hours there are in a day.
This is a very convoluted way of saying I've been really ( Read more... )

As much as I love Peter and Neal's camradery, I LIKE THE DISTRUST MORE. I want the Con Man. If I wanted a normal buddy buddy procedural, I'd watch reruns of Criminal Minds.
I am so totally with you on that, my friend. I was also convinced that they would resolve the whole trust issues thing in the first episode, but what made me reconsider was Matt guesting on Jimmy Fallon night before last. He said something that sounded like they were dragging the whole "what am I gonna do with the treasure that fell into my lap?" thing well over season three. Which would be very much to my liking (I think).

Well, here's what Matt said exactly. I guess that can be interpreted every which way, but I wanted to read into it that they're gonna use this for more than just the first episode or two: "At the end of last season, he [Neal] basically stumbled upon the biggest score you could ever hope to get as a con artist, and so this season is really about sort of the duplicity of this. Is he gonna stay and do the right thing, or is he gonna take the score and go?"

Truth be told, I want Neal to be a good guy too. And come to think of it, that's how I write him in my fanfics too. I just recently finished a post-2x16 story that deals a little with the trust issues. I haven't posted it yet, it's still with the beta reader.

But I suppose you're right. Neal is a conman at heart. I think I just conveniently want to forget about that most of the time. And case!fics aren't my strong suit. They're always so much research work, because I don't know the first thing about forging or art theft or all that stuff. (Which is probably a good thing ( ... )

Ahh, yeah - I went back and watched the clip again last night. As well as the sneak peak. Repeatedly
I hope they play it out a lot longer. It brings that tension back between them and reminds us that Neal's not actually a through and through Good Guy. He got where he is though bad things and he's trying to make up for it.

I get why most people prefer him the way they do. From what's in the show, there's a lot to base him on as a good guy, and at heart he is a good guy. He's just also quite good at being bad, and I mean half the show is based around this fact that Neal is in actuality a con man and signed himself up for this so he could get out of prison for his girlfriend. Now the girlfriend's gone and he's left on the outside with that motivator gone, everything he used to be - and was comfortable and good at being - is considered wrong and immoral and while he knew that before, he didn't care. I think the difference now is he doesn't have the conviction on that other side of the law to keep going except his own history and what he ( ... )

I totally skipped the sneak peek because I hate spoilers. I'd rather go in blindly. I mean, it gets kinda hard to avoid spoilers when you're this involved in a fandom, but I think I've become pretty good at dodging them ( ... )
