Movie Trailer Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Written by
Walt Disney Pictures My Thoughts
Before the movie started I was worried that my hopes would be too high, from the trailer I could see that the story would have action and would probably be funny but it also came off as being a little cheesy and I thought “what if it’s too cheesy or even lame?” Luckily it was pretty great. Sure there was a little cheese factor but the movie was also filled with action and was very funny and at times even sweet.
Jay Baruchel did a great job playing the out of his element, confused, spastic, physics major Dave who after his traumatic experience with magic as a kid wasn’t too keen to deal with it again. Balthazar (Nicholas Cage) on the other hand is a sorcerer on a mission and he’s been searching for Dave for hundreds of years. Both eccentric and powerful I enjoyed watching Nicolas Cage in a fantasy roll that I wasn’t sure he would be able to pull off but he did and I am happy for it.
You should check out this movie if you enjoy humour and magic, I know children would enjoy it greatly -my little brother was hoping for a sequel before the movie was done and I can’t say I blame him.
