So, in the endless quest for work, I answered an ad on Craig's List Tuesday for someone in Lakewood who needed handyman help with a few things. I answered the ad, and ending up going over there Tuesday evening. It started weird because she called me at home, and the caller ID said Tremco, which was the name of the group that had the huge event at the Renaissance Hotel that I had to work for. I thought "Why are THEY calling me? To thank me?" But it was just a coincidence.
So I get there, and it's right next to Erik's scoutmaster's house. It's an apartment over a garage, and she has a bunch of piddly stuff she needs done that she's just too tired to do. So I installed some window tint film on a window, strung a red rope light around her boudoir, fixed a closet door, installed a baby gate to keep her pet skunk (!) from getting out, and then, the kicker: clean out her attic.
It seems her and her friend got it organized, but her dad came by over the weekend and trashed it. Yeah, whatever. It was a freakin' mess. She never throws out boxes, or the packaging therein. She had me on the lookout for a soap dispener that looks like a perfum bottle (!) that she sold on Ebay, but can't find (!), and a box of VHS tapes she wanted to transfer to DVD. I'm starting to wonder now what might have been on them...
Anyway, she's got probably a dozen boxes of clothes, many, if not most, with the tags still on them, and two large boxes of brand new shoes, that she wants organized, and since I had to check all the boxes for the soap dispenser, I noticed she had a high proportion of... well... clothes that... uh... um... weren't the kinds of things you'd wear to your family Xmas.
Did I mention she looked like a swarthy, chubby Natalie Merchant?
She's also got boxes of food, which she said her dad brought her, including an open box of pancake mix, and three jars of POWDERED peanut butter!
Did I mention it was about 95 degrees up there?
All the while, she was stretched out on her couch, watching TV. Which is fine, she hired me to work, but she was always in this... uh... pose, sort of redolent, with a sort of come-hither look all the time, like she was trying to... insinuate something. (Alyson, you WILL NOT mention this!)
Well, no Penthouse Letter ensued, but she wants me to come back... Soon.
Wednesday, I had an interview at Dish1Up, a selling agent for Direct TV. I got the job, and start training Monday, but I find some of their business practices unethical, and it will be straight commission, so I dunno. We'll see.
But today, Ted from the Renaissance (where I've been freelancing) called, and said the AV supervisor from the Marriott downtown at Key Center quit, and gave me the e-mail of the banquet manager there. I e-mailed him, so hopefully something will happen. Watch this space for updates!
Well, time to finish my White Russian and play some Axis & Allies.
