I was hoping to post once or twice while in Nashville, but we worked an average of 12 hours per day, running back and forth between the 10 rooms we were running. It was the same setup as last year, a screen and LCD projector for each room, plus a wireless mic and a mixer, with one output going to the room sound system and one going to a client-supplied digital recorder. This time, the room moderators, who were supposed to start the recordings, managed to destroy three $300 digital recorders, including one brand new M-Audio Microtrack II. They use compact flash cards as recording media, and the moderators stuck the cards in any which way they felt like, bending the contacts inside, then mashing them beyond recognition when they realized how the cards went in.
So, after Bob, the client, freaked out that some lectures weren't being recorded, I suggested that my co-workers and I, plus Bob's helper Ryan, supervise the recording of the most-important lectures. This worked out great, as all the lectures we recorded were fine. Day saved.\
Co-worker Dave was bring his girlfriend with him, and thus finagled the only room at the luxe Opryland Hotel that the client was supplying, and left other co-worker Roger and me stuck at the Days Inn a mile up the road. Which, actually, wasn't all that bad, because they had free breakfast (though not nearly as good as the $17 breakfast buffet at the Opryland), and the Sci-Fi channel and Cartoon Network. As it turned out, our boss Joe got wind of the situation and decreed that Roger and I, being the majority of the techs, should stay on-site. Plus, it wasn't right that Dave's GF was staying in a client-supplied room.
Long story short: Dave had girlfriend issues, mostly related to her bi-polarism and his inability to have the slightest clue what women want in a relationship. (Such as not being treated as secondary to work) All in all, everything went peachy, Dave's version would differ, however. To him, a client saying "Could we have the podium on the left instead of the right?" is an epic disaster. Putz.
Roger, luckily, actually was interested in going downtown, which was nice, especially since it was warm Friday night and the concentration of scantily-clad country babes was very high on the main drag. Got to Great Escape, the geek heaven bar none, on Saturday. Little disappointed with LP/CD collection, but they had oodles of gaming, comics and other stuff to be bought. I managed to only spend $33, but could have easily spent hundreds. Smartly, I stayed away from the bin of Creepy mags.
Did the TomTom-predicted 8:20 drive in under eight hours Sunday.
Monday, took long hot bath to ease sore... well, everything. Watched a couple episodes of Hammer House of Horror. Took Ben to psychiatrist to get medication upped. Came home and made yummy Mexcian casserole thing and got house ready for Cub Scout committee meeting tonight. During which Ben dropped an enormous turd in the toilet, clogging it. Erik took it in turn to attempt plunging of said turd and overflowed the toilet. Of course, he blamed it on Ben. But I had to extricate the offending log and re-mop the floor. Then I sat down to do our state taxes, from which I am now taking a break.
Back to work.
Tomorrow I may go stealthing.
