Xehan stared into his little cup of beverage, completely entranced by its contents.
He sipped it, thoughtfully rolling the liquid over his tongue.
Remarkable.
Somehow, the food production staff had managed to synthesise a beverage that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.
It wasn't an unpleasant flavour - quite the opposite. It went very well with the curiously-shaped biscuit things, and with the oranges.
His eyes flickered to the dark screen as he sipped. He remembered
a skyscraper, stories and stories high, crowned with similar such screens, attuned to the thoughts, the latent memories of those who scaled it, a beacon to the wanderer lost in the rainy city streets, in that city of ashes and ghosts
and his head spun a bit. That had been Nobody. Now he was whole.
Xehan swallowed his mouthful of !tea and cleared his throat, then looked (down, slightly) at the blond, white-clad man before him. He thought, briefly, of Luxord. Something about the keen-eyed expression and undeniable put-togetherness, regardless of how silly the situation.
And the bemusement. Though, in this case, it looked to be blunted by impending migraine.
"I've not, yet, though - excuse me a moment - I assure you, I am neither showing off nor trying to attack, I'm simply - "
Closing his eyes, Xehan called on a bit of magic, and willed himself to float perhaps three feet off the ground. He opened his eyes, looked around the square, cau8ght sight of his old tutor, acked, and hurriedly landed.
There wasn't any sign of the blond man's friend either.
"I don't see him yet. Perhaps he's not yet here? I'm certain he heard the announcement - I will keep an eye out for him?" A smile. "Incidentally - I apologize for not having introduced myself. I am--"
...What name ought he to use? Not the alias or anagram. Not when he was right

Rufus staredIt was just as well that Xehan had voiced the warning; Rufus had just come from a rather harrowing encounter with Hojo, and was quite definitely skitterish and edgy at the moment. He took an involuntary step back as the silver haired man did the impossible, and, for the second time in less than a minute, wondered privately if he was some kind of cousin to Sephiroth
( ... )
"That - oh." Xehan looked sheepish. "Magics. i'm - I was trained to be a mage knight, in the world I came from originally. My memories of it are still coming back, in pieces, but I remember, now, who I am and what I'm here for. ...More or less. Er--"
He grabbed a cup of !tea for Rufus.
"It's hardly proper tea, but it's an intriguing beverage nonetheless - or I can get an orange for you if you wish, Rufus."
Perhaps the tea would be better than the coffee. He accepted it - world powered by caffeine - and shook his head at the offer of an orange. He'd never been particularly fond of them in the first place.
"Magic is a generic word for anything we don't understand, where I come from," he said, a trifle flatly. "How does it work, over there? Do you use anything specific? Can anyone learn it, or is it a matter of inate potential?"
Oh yes, there was quite definitely a reason for asking that.
Xehan chortled softly at Rufus's comment. "Fair enough. Yes, where I am from, anyone can learn magic if he or he is taught Some pick it up more slowly, but it's a matter of concentration. The utilisation, reverence of, and shaping of natural forces according to one's will-power. My principal element is Shadow. Darkness."
Xehan still had that reverent tone, when discussing the dark. One could hear his capital D and adoration.
"I have some ability to accessthe...er...element of void, as well. I know that sounds strange, seeing as one thinks of the void as the place in which everything else exists. But it is a force, as Light and Darkness are, as fire and water are. It should be called upon and revered as well."
He closed his eyes.
"Light and dark are eternal, as is the void in which they and we all dwell."
Teach me, Rufus was inclined to say immediately, but he bit that response back as he fiddled with the cuffs of his shirt, straightening them. It wasn't the fact that there was always something intrinsically ... forbidding ... about the concepts of Shadow, Darkness, Dark, what have you, as opposed to the way Light was traditionally associated with Good. It was the fact that Xehan was a complete stranger, very polite, but quite possibly off his rocker, and Rufus knew it unwise to get too close without realising what manner of fire he was playing with.
The word 'revered' disturbed him, a little. It always called to mind fanaticism.
But he was intrigued, and so he kept talking, even as his eyes scanned the crowd. "How does access to the elements allow you to float?"
He sipped it, thoughtfully rolling the liquid over his tongue.

...This !tea was really very refreshing.

Couldn't see the eyes.
But silver hair was good enough.
What the hell was this little mad tea party, anyway?!
But if there was an Event, Kadaj was sure to show up, which meant that the best place to look for him was, well. Here.
"Pardon," he said to the silver haired stranger. "Perchance have you seen anyone with chin-length silver hair, green eyes, wears black a lot?"
Not the most intelligent of queries, for sure, but he could blame that on the headache.
